Laurie Piatkowski It is Blueberry season were theses little guys get their chance to shine and make something of themselves and sure enough we put them into beer Newport Blueberry beer to be exact. This craft Ale is brewed year round so it is not hard to acquirer, just have to wander over to your local package store. I have walked by this beer for a while being skeptical because well they're Rhode Island berries and I am from Maine, but I have eaten New Hampshire berries and they taste the same. So I picked up a six rack. Into the stein, pours golden in color with a soft white head. Carbonation takes note just for a second but sweet fresh blueberry aroma and taste with a light malt undertone takes hold, you can also tell that it is real vs syrup flavor At 4.5 AVB it is not a heavy beer but be careful too many and it will knock you on your ass. Blueberry brew is a hybrid Kolsh style. Fermented at colder temperatures, but using our American Ale strain minimizes conflicting fruity esters. Pale Malt makes up the base of the this beer, but this brew also calls for a large amount of malted wheat, an ingredient that lends a soft mouth feel to the beer. Further there is enough caramalt to ensure a sweetness everyone will enjoy. Hops are chosen to compliment and balance the brew as it is bittered with a small amount of Magnum and flavored with English Pilgrim to lightly accent this truly unique Ale. Overall my impression of this beer was “it is delicious” unlike some blueberry beers it is not in your face HELLO I am here, it is very nice and pared with a hamburger you can't go wrong. Also when drinking it in a glass might I suggest putting Blueberries in it.
