Christmas Cheer For All To Hear - What the WBOB Staff Loves & Loaths

In the spirit of the holidays and genius program directors at local radio stations who have decided it’s socially acceptable to begin playing Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving. Some of the good boys and girls at WBOB have put together their list of songs they love and loath.  

Dan Martin - Comic's Corner - Christmas is my favorite time of year and music is a big part of my life. Which is why I can say without a doubt that Christmas Music makes me want to climb a tower and pick off snow men one top hat at a time. So that said, I don't have a favorite Merry Jingle proper though I am least likely to go on a rampage to your "Jingle Bell Rocks" or "Grandma Ran Over a Reindeer," because they are fun, upbeat and dare I say, tolerable.

My least favorite genre of Yule Tide Caroling would have to be the religious flavored tunes. Pretty much anything over the top Jesus, God or even the other mythical figure that watches over us, Santa. Keep it light and full of joy. I mean after all, Christmas is a party.

Evan McKay - Ramble On - Dominick the donkey sucks so much ass its not even funny! Its the most repetitive and catchy shitty jingle the world has ever known. If you have ever met me I am super positive and not a curmudgeon. I enjoy the holiday spirit and like spending money, eating ham, getting wasted and getting gifts. I enjoy a Christmas song or two. Greensleeves and god rest ye merry whatever, but this piece of shit! I am half Italian also. I enjoy sausage and pasta and even a lil' Ol' Blue eyes himself but come on! Just don't be so damn repetitive. Merry Christmas Folks!!!!!!

Bob Giusti - The Franchise - My favorite song for the season (my favorite music would be A Charlie Brown Christmas) is The Christmas Song by Mel Torme. Commonly referred to from its first verse of "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" this lilting ballad brings instant holiday spirit.
My least favorite song is Let It Snow. All it does is predict bad weather.

The Dip - Psycho Sports - I am not what you would call a "holiday guy", but in the spirit of the season I will participate. By far the most annoying Christmas song is "So this is Christmas" by John Lennon.  Maybe its all of my years in the restaurant industry where they pipe Muzak in and you hear every song 5 times a day, or maybe its because this song sounds like Yoko wrote it!
My favorite song is easy, "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley.  No explanation needed on that one.  I would be remiss if I didn't mention an old traditional, canon that my parents have been singing for years, "Dona Nobis Pacem", usually song in a round.  The English translation is Grant Us Peace.

Michael Parente - Psycho Sports - When I think of Christmas, I think of cookie-scented candles, presents, a tender, succulent Christmas-day roast and warm sweaters, not music, but if I’m forced to pick a Christmas song I could listen to repeatedly without wanting to stab myself in the eardrum, it’d have to be Dean Martin’s rendition of “Marshmallow World,” originally recorded by Bing Crosby in the 1950s.
This one isn’t as hokey as most Christmas songs (see Billy Joel and Johnny Mathis’ version of “The Christmas Song”) and the vivid imagery courtesy of Martin’s dulcet tones paints a much brighter picture than most of the clichéd nonsense on the airwaves during Christmastime.  The world is your snowball. See how it grows! That’s how it goes whenever it snows!

My list of least favorite Christmas songs is much longer, but the first two that come to mind are Lou Monte’s “Dominick The Donkey” and “Christmas In Hollis” by Run-D.M.C. Nothing enforces stereotypical guido culture more than a dago jackass donkey hee-hawing his way through Venice helping Santa Claus deliver bracciole, toy race cars and packs of cigarettes to well-behaved Italian children. Did you know the Gambino crime family helped fund the original recording of this song in the ‘60s? Of course they did.

“Christmas In Hollis” is even worse, unless you’re a white investment banker with no rhythm who wears turtlenecks five months a year and brags about having black friends. This is the kind of song white people put on their iPod to diversify their musical portfolio while puckering their lips and “chunking the deuce” at an ugly sweater party. Chances are if you like this song you probably couldn’t name another Run-D.M.C. song other than “the one with Aerosmith” and for that you should strangle yourself with the mistletoe you stand under.

Rob Duguay - Under the Radar - Favorite Christmas Song: Bruce Springsteen's rendition of Otis Redding's "Merry Christmas Baby". Having the horns from The E Street Band and Bruce being sly as ever, this track will make you want to take a few cups of Egg Nog & Brandy and find a mistletoe.

Least Favorite Christmas Song: "Jingle Bells". It's extremely annoying with the same lyrics over and over again, once it gets stuck in your head you'll be begging for a frontal lobotomy

Prof Clyde - Wild Side - My favorites Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer - Have a Holy Jolly Christmas because Burl Ives is the voice of Christmas. Best rock song Father Christmas by the Kinks because it is in punk forum best religious song Hark, Herald the Angels sing and Little Drummer Boy makes me grateful and proud I am a believer. MY favorite what else the one and only Grinch who stole Christmas always brings a smile makes you feel like a kid with that deep voice Your A Mean One Heck should be my theme song. The older I get I like The Christmas song (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire) now I know I'm old.

The worst songs Silent Night CAUSE it puts me to sleep.The worst is The 12 days of Christmas CAUSE IT SUCKS
