This Valentine’s Day, Comcast is launching a new website, Troop-Greetings.com, designed to connect deployed U.S. military members with their loved ones back home. “As a proud U.S. Navy veteran, I know firsthand the importance of support from loved ones back home during deployment” According to the National Military Family Association, since 9/11, military families have been experiencing longer and more frequent deployments. While Comcast had previously hosted greetings on the Video On Demand platform, the web version of this service allows friends and family of the deployed from all over the country — including those outside of Comcast’s cable footprint — to receive greetings from troops overseas. Also unique to the new site is a feature called “Share Your Greeting,” which allows loved ones, civilians, and veterans alike to send messages back, whether as a personalized greeting to a single individual or a broad message of thanks and best wishes to all of those deployed throughout the year. The video messages from active service members are produced by the Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System and new messages will be posted to the site for the following holidays: Valentine’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and throughout the winter holiday season. “As a proud U.S. Navy veteran, I know firsthand the importance of support from loved ones back home during deployment,” said Steve Salata, Senior Director of Field Operations and Lead of Comcast’s VetNet Employee Resource Group. “This website will help military families communicate during a difficult time, and I hope others will participate by sharing words of encouragement, appreciation and more to those serving our country.” Comcast NBCUniversal has a culture that supports veterans, reservists, and military families. The company seeks to employ, support and promote veterans in the workforce, and have been committed to hiring thousands of veterans as they transition from the military to work in a variety of positions at all levels. Comcast NBCUniversal formalized this commitment by partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s "Hiring Our Heroes" initiative ― a program that helps veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment ― in January 2012. Since the partnership began, Comcast and NBCUniversal have hired more than 3,700 veterans. The launch of Troop-Greetings.com is our latest endeavor to support military troops and their families. |
