Hey everyone and welcome to not just another Comedy on Us but our Third BLOGISODE! You may have noticed that our live episodes are on hold. As the station moves homes and we regroup, Comic's Corner has been working hard to schedule guests for the return and keep as current as possible in our blogs. You may have read RA Bartlett's GoT Preview or Kenny Nardozza's TWD Series, "Stalking Dead." In this blogisode we offer links to our goings on in Comedy this past and coming weeks. Please read, enjoy and share. We will be back LIVE before you know it.

patton oswalt releases his new special

Patton Oswalt has released his new special for 2014, "Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time" and I could not be happier. Thinking back to about eight years or so ago when I was giving stand-up some real consideration, it was Comedians Of Comedy and guys like Patton that really inspired me and taught me that if I worked hard but somehow stayed grounded, that I had a chance at getting my thoughts out there.

I recently had the opportunity to meet Patton after a show at URI where he headlined a show presented by students as part of a Comedy Symposium. I took the gig teaching workshops and facilitating so that I could be around comedy theorists and writers for the day. My pay was unlimited access to all of the panels and tickets to the show at night. I got so much out of the workshops that I attended and had a great time writing and talking with newer comedians.

I got a sneak peek at the album's possible material because Oswalt had been on the road promoting and practicing the special. It was fun to listen back and see what made the cut and what was off the cuff live.

The CD/DVD comes packaged together for as low as 11.88! The box art is gorgeousness with simple plastic and cardboard packaging. The CD and DVD have the same audio so if you are like me you can go from Home to Car very smoothly. I like to listen to comedy on long drives to gigs.

The special itself is another amazingly insightful hour with Patton. A few specials back he announced, rather crudely, that he was having a baby. I believe he even used the term "Stink Crevice" to describe the womb from whence it came. He talked about his fears of having a child while dealing with depression, recreational drug use and his friends views on birth. I felt like I have been on this journey with him. The following special he was a Dad and did bits concerning how tired that made him and how if affected his appearance and affect, receiving a parking violation in sweat pants.

On "Tragedy Plus Time Equals Comedy" we find ourselves in Patton's current world, raising a toddler and balancing his career. His fears about destroying his child's mind with media. Also we get a new look at his struggle with depression and how the birth of his child had a positive effect on him, though his depression is creative.

All in all, this is a great special with lots of insight into Oswalt's current life, which in my opinion makes for great comedy. Interesting, thoughtful people sharing the humor in their tragedy.
