The Providence Community Library’s Mutt Strut is a literary fashion show for dogs taking place on Sunday, September 7th as part of the City of Providence’s Hope Street Cyclovía event. The Mutt Strut will feature dogs dressed as characters from books; participants will have the chance to show off their canine costumes in a short parade and on an outdoor stage, and to compete for prizes. The Mutt Strut begins at 2:30 p.m., and is free and open to the public. Dapper dogs and their owners will convene outside of the Rochambeau Library at 708 Hope Street and then parade down the block to the Cyclovía stage. The parade will return to the front of the Rochambeau Library where costumes will be judged by a small panel of dog and book lovers. Dog owners should call the Rochambeau Library to sign up at 272-3780 by Saturday, September 6th at 5:45PM. The Mutt Strut was conceived by Edilberta Trejo, Library Clerk, and Angela DiVeglia, Reference Librarian at Rochambeau Library, and made possible with help from the Friends of Waterman Street Dog Park and the Hope Street Merchants Association. Romchambeau is the largest of the nine libraries in the Providence Community Library system. Events for all ages take place at the library daily, from digital literacy classes to the popular Zumba 4 Toddlers. The Mutt Strut is happening as part of Cyclovía, a car-free event that opens Providence streets to people so that they can walk, skate, run, bicycle, exercise and socialize. Cyclovía will also feature street vendors, bike activities, Zumba, and more. |
