The first thing you see when you walk in the front entrance of Rise Gymnastics is the table filled with trophies. They stand in ordered ranks, a solid array of success. The next thing you notice, walking out onto the main gym floor, is the aura of fun and enthusiasm on the part of the children of all ages as they run, stretch, and balance under the watchful eyes of attentive coaches.
I will learn before the end of my visit that the Rise coaching staff includes three former Olympic gymnasts, including Head Coach Hana Ricna. The old saying that those who can't do, teach certainly does not apply here! In fact, besides being dedicated to mentoring young students of all skill levels, Rise has also been chosen as a training facility for European gymnastics coaches, and participates in a popular Exchange Program for visiting gymnasts.
Among the students training here is David Jessen, a member of the U.S. National Gymnastics Team. David is ranked #2 in the country, proving that the level of excellence embodied by the coaching staff is fully reflected in the students. Of course, a child does not need the ambition of an aspiring Olympic athlete to be welcome here, just a strong desire to get into good physical shape, learn fundamental skills, and enjoy themselves along the way. For reasons of safety, Rise will require a deeper commitment on the part of more serious students about the age of ten.
Full-time Camp is available during school vacations, including waterslide-type activities during the summer months. The facility will also host Birthday Parties, providing trampolines and other entertainment as long as you supply the ice-cream and cake.
