Bob Giusti - [email protected] "Everybody" has been exposed to some form of Grumpy Cat by now. The ubiquitous feline is all over the internet with its' pouted grimace reminiscent of the cuddly Gizmo from the movie Gremlins (or the prototype for Garfield). The social sites are filled with memes commenting on everything from what dinner tasted like to swipes at Obamacare. This has made this special pet a full time job for its owner (Tabatha Bundesen), with an estimated cool million credited so far in proceeds from appearances, a book (Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book) and a calendar.
The cat is a one year old female whose real name is Tardar Sauce, a mixed breed who was born with feline dwarfism that helped form her lower jaw into a money making pucker machine. Fortunately her owner and manager (yes, the cat has a manager) coordinate a limited schedule that allows Tard (as she is affectionately nick named) to spend most of her days as non celebrity cats do. In the meantime, you can "like" Grumpy Cat on Facebook (along with just over two and a half million others) or try and see the movie Lil Bub & Friendz, a documentary that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the Tribeca Online Festival Best Feature Film for a segment featuring GC. It appears Tard can do no wrong as producers are talking about a feature film with the working title Grumpy Cat the Movie as well as merchandisers lining up to put out GC swag and likenesses. This cat really puts new meaning into having nine lives. |
