The University of Rhode Island Theatre Department will host open auditions for its two spring productions, “As You Like It,” by William Shakespeare and “Italian American Reconciliation,” by John Patrick Shanley. Auditions are open to the public and actors can sign up by calling the theater department at (401) 874-5921. Initial auditions will be held on the second floor in the Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston, on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, from 1 to 5 p.m. “As You Like It” auditions will take place in G Studio, while “Italian American Reconciliation” auditions will be held in J Studio. Callbacks for both plays will be held Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, from 6 to 10 p.m. The department seeks 25 to 30 actors to stage “As You Like It,” Shakespeare’s pastoral comedy in which Rosalind flees persecution to find love in the forest of Arden. Actors will be required to perform a 1- to 2-minute comic Shakespeare monologue. Under the direction of Alan F. Hawkridge, performances of this main stage production will begin April 16, 2015. A cast of five (two men, three women) is needed to perform “Italian American Reconciliation,” the story of a divorced man named Huey Bonfigliano, who is seeking to regain his “manhood” by wooing his ex-wife, Janice, in a heartwarming, wonderfully romantic and imaginatively conceived play. Actors will be asked to perform a 1- to 2-minute contemporary comedic dialogue, and may be asked to perform with an Italian or Brooklyn accent. Under the direction of Vinny Ballirano, a URI senior directing major, the full-length performances begin March 6, 2015. |
