For Sharon Marie Melesko, co-owner of Wayland Square Power Yoga, the practice of Yoga is a spiritual experience, each session is one more step on a continuous life journey. This is a journey that she takes quite seriously. "Our Yoga is Coffee Black, Straight Up," she says. No music, gimmicks, no distractions. "We concentrate on the basics." "Our Yoga is Coffee Black, Straight Up" - Sharon Marie Malesko And you can't get more basic than breathing: "Breath is Life-Force," Sharon explains. "Breathing is the fundamental constant of Yoga." It's not bending yourself into a strange position with eyes closed, trying your best to remain upright? Nope, not even close. Yoga is also not just something to do because it's trendy, or because you want to lose weight. What we're talking about here is a 5000-year-old Practice (old as human civilization, in other words), that can heal both physical and mental suffering. Yoga therapy enabled Sharon to overcome severe pain during a debilitating physical illness. This experience led to her decision to go into business with her husband Robert, and begin teaching full-time. The studio offers formal classes, as well as individual instruction. The philosophy here is that there is a Yoga experience for everybody. Stop by Wayland Square for a visit. Sharon will be happy to discuss life-experiences, quote Hindu proverbs (Ask her to tell you the one about going around the mountain), and explain how the world operates on fear. She will also explain how it is possible to overcome that fear with a good dose of no-nonsense Yoga. And how to have fun doing it, while the Yoga heals your mind, body, and soul.
