February is Black History Month... and Canned Food Month. It is also National Cherry Month, National Grapefruit Month, National Children's Dental Health Month; I could go on. But wait, isn't February also about Valentine's Day? Or the birthdays of two of America's greatest Presidents, Washington and Lincoln? For such a small month, February certainly has a lot of nationally designated days, in fact, there are more "days" in February... than days. Here are the highlights... George Goner Passing the time on third shift is like listening to a bad jam band featuring your girlfriend's brother on guitar, at a show you booked yourself: no matter how miserable and bored you are, you can't leave. It's like living in Providence, RI and having to spend four hours driving past 93 Connecticut exits to get to New York City. 93 useless exits leading to nowhere but a series of rotting coastal cities and towns, whose drab bleakness would depress even Poe. The only thing worse than the boredom of third shift is sitting there listening to the voices. I told you about those. The laughter of the dead children, and the terrified screams of the factory bosses. They haunt me. It has been another great week for Comic's Corner and we have another one in the chamber for you with; Comedy On Us: Vol 18! We will re-cap the week and provide links to the highlights. Read on to keep track of our staff's blogs and upcoming guests. It's been a fun week in local comedy. I hope you enjoyed my embarrassing meme. Perhaps I will talk more about it below...

I don't know about you, but even though Pete Seeger was a ripe 94 years old when he passed suddenly yesterday, I was still in shock to hear the news. Like his songs, an illogical part of me expected him to live through my own lifetime.

A garage rock band from Providence that has steadily become one of the best acts to see live in the New England area, Atlantic Thrills know how to make you go absolutely crazy while having tons of fun. Their highly anticipated self-titled debut is coming out this week and it oozes fuzz, emphasis and energy to create an album that is a must have for any rock & roll enthusiast. With Eric Aguiar on bass, guitar gods Daniel Tanner and Kelly Riley and Josh Towers on drums, this frenzied foursome are bound to give your ears a jolt that they’ve never experienced before. People are always looking for a cool band that knows how to turn it up and get loud, look no further than Atlantic Thrills and their brand new debut.

Between January 1st of 1970 and December 31st of 1979, existed a decade of amazing comedy. Some of the classics of movie comedy history; Annie Hall (1977), Blazing Saddles (1974), and The Jerk (1979) to name a few, were born of this decade. Sure the 80’s added boobs and bush to our comedy and the 90’s added swearing and sarcasm, but the 70’s will always be the high water mark for great film comedy. In that vein I have been tasked with creating a list of what I think today’s comedy movies are painfully lacking… Freddy Choyle There is nothing more meaningless in sports like the NFL Pro Bowl. Most veterans like Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, decline the invitation each year. No one cares, not the players, certainly not the fans. It's a filler. A fluff game, with it's only true purpose being to extend Super Bowl promotions one more week. Frankly it doesn't make much sense for the leagur to continue to play the game. The actual television broadcast is not highly rated at all. In fact all the major networks Super Bowl special shows will do better comparatively to the game itself. This made me think of other glorified exhibition games, which ultimately sparked my muse for this week's list................Top Five Worst Games On TV |
