For over 50 years, New York City has been home to some of the best singer-songwriters in music history. Names like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Jackson Browne and Harry Nilsson got their start in The Big Apple and gone on to influential cult status and/or become mainstream icons. A guy who can definitely be considered The City That Never Sleeps' best kept secret won't be for long with his new EP Bad Starts & Broken Hearts. That's Brad Alan Dennison and his record has that catchy groove that takes over your soul. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Tim Champion at Sandpile Recording in the west village of New York City along with Lucas Van Lenten and Daniel Weintraub at Hell's Kitchen Studio in Brooklyn, the production quality is crystal clear. Everything syncopates perfectly and sounds impeccable, and also the songs are pretty damn good too. A performer at Boobstock NYC at The Irish Exit this past October, Brad's songs have that pop feel that stays with you while at the same time exuding genuinely heartfelt lyrics that put you into a trance. A spectacular album that deserves everyone's attention. | The time has arrived, the moment is here and it's apparent that you know what's next. Yep, it's the part of this piece of music journalism excellence that I pick my favorite songs off of Brad Alan Dennison's Bad Starts & Broken Hearts. There's only 6 songs on this record, but that doesn't make it easier because every track is astounding. Anyways like I always say, here goes something: "Come Home With Me" starts with a very fantastic guitar riff and then sets into a groove, any guy who's about to go on a hot date should listen to this track for some inspiration. "Fauxbia" is has that pop I mentioned earlier, anyone can relate to Brad's tales about being alone in his apartment and just thinking the day away. "Wake Up Allison" has a funky bass line along with the magnificent Cecili Simmons on backing vocals singing along with Brad on the song. Just because I just mentioned three tracks off of Brad's EP doesn't mean you should take my word for it and ignore it, in fact you should do the complete opposite. Brad celebrated the release of Bad Starts & Broken Hearts at Entwine on 765 Washington Street in New York City on February 10th and be sure he'll be playing all over good ol' gotham and perhaps even beyond in the near future. Until Brad comes and plays at your favorite watering hole or music venue, grab a copy of Bad Starts & Broken Hearts. A jewel of music that will put you at ease and grace a smile on your face. |

Who doesn't love a cupcake? Honestly who can refuse a delicious pastry topped with sweet frosting. That's the business plan at City Girl Cupcake.
Located in the heart of down city Providence literally foot steps away from the Johnson & Wales across from the old arcade. City Girl Cupcake is serving up the goodies fast and fresh.
Featuring daily flavors such as your standard vanilla, or something a little more sinful like red velvet or chocolate lava, pastry chef Adrianna Correia likes to mix it up. When asked what some of her more "exotic" flavors were she discussed her french toast, espresso martini & key lime cupcakes.

"Making Memories Last"
Often the best stories are the ones that begin as a surprise. After a recent visit with a local recording studio I was invited into the neighboring business for a quick peek at something out of the ordinary.
As I walked through the doors of Retro Media I was quickly reminded of the days of old. The days before digital technology. I must admit as an old school tech junkie I felt like a kid in a candy store. A really old candy store. Perhaps a better comparison would be a high test Radio Shack circa 1991 or earlier. Retro Media is a memory conversion hub. Taking your old films, photos, video tapes and just about any other form of obsolete recording devices and turning them into easy formats. Take an old family VHS and turn into a DVD watchable on any computer or TV anywhere.
"Making your Memories Last" is certainly a interesting business. The idea to retain or even restore priceless memories on new formats is so simple its ingenious. It is completely reasonable to believe that anyone over the age of 20 has at least a shoe box full of old photos or an old cassettes that they just can not part with.
As I was not on an official WBOB visit to Retro Media I knew little to nothing about the charges for such services. When I decided that I was indeed going to blog about this experience at retromediaonline.com, not only did I find their prices to be affordable I found their site to be easy to use and extremely informative.

Owner Ed DiMeglio has extensive credentials in the film community. His work was recognized by the best as the best. Yet these days as he explained to me he takes pride in bringing smiles to his customer's faces. Restoring a long lost loved one back to digital life is a very rewarding experience he went on to summarize. Much like his customers I found my visit to Retro Media to pleasant and memorable.

Family owned and operated since 1948, Legion Bowl and Billiards started as just a 30-lane bowling alley. Today however, it has grown into a full family entertainment center.
Catering to people of all ages, Legion Bowl and Billiards has been recently remodeled, and now includes activities such as bowling, billiards, and a full redemption arcade. They also feature bar and kitchen with a full menu, freshly cooked popcorn, and even live entertainment.
When asked, Marshall D’Ambrosio, shared his thoughts about Legion Bowl and Billiards; “We are one of the best kept secrets in Rhode Island, we offer great pricing, and try to be as friendly and accommodating as possible. Most businesses lack those qualities these days.”
Legion Bowl and Billiards is known as a great place for PTO events, bowling parties, and even school dances, and they go the extra mile to help to make those special events memorable. But like I said, Legion Bowl is not just for the kids. They also host adult bowling leagues, pool tournaments, and the attached bar (Pub on Park), also features its own live entertainment: (open mics, karaoke, live bands, and sporting events). Legion Bowl and Billiards is open 7 days a week, so stop on down, chalk up a cue, bowl a frame, and have a pint... and don't forget to say hi to Marshall.
