stage closingsIt is always a sad time when accessible stage time is taken away from newer comedians that desperately need it. Especially show and go time, it is essential to one's development. Comedians in areas with very little stage time tend to come across unpolished and sometimes crass. But don't worry, even with clubs closing, there are some great shows and opportunities for comics to get on stage coming up. Seeing a show can be just as important as being a part of one. It is important to seek out industry and rub elbows as they say.
The closings this month were Catch A Rising Star, Lincoln. Which has moved but now only features one show a week and it is pre booked. Christopher's Deli in Cranston, RI has also cancelled it's weekly show and go. With any luck, organizers will be speaking with the new ownership and it will come back in a few months. One can dream. In the meantime, work on you craft and check out a show as well. Dan Martin
Welcome to another edition of Comedy on Us! A living newsletter chronicling the on-goings of one of our top rated shows; The Comics Corner. I humbly welcome you all to Vol. 26. -Dan MacKnight
So I have been told that 2014 is "going to be a big year for garage rock. “ I hope that’s true, because right now it seems like everything that has been coming out consists of synth-heavy New Wave revival music, which I have never really been fond of. In the hopes of finding something new and exciting, I decided to check out Angel Olsen’s new album, which a few of my friends are already hooked on. Dan Martin
Welcome to another edition of our electric comedy rag; Comedy on Us: Vol 25 (It's Alive!!!) This week on the show we have a local legend and roaster of crowds; and they are the same person. We also have a different type of guest but not the first banjo player on The Corner. Off the Air, the crew will be performing and blogging. You will have to go below to find out more. Evan Mckay
So Sony dropped a big, Yamato-cannon size bomb this week in San Francisco at the 2014 GDC(Game Developers Conference). They officially announced "Project Morpheus". Project Morpheus is Sony's version of a retail virtual reality head set. VR at first, always seems a little gimmicky but this thing looks like it might actually be pretty damn cool!
Evan Mckay So they finally unleashed the beast of a schedule that is PAX 2014 and man am I psyched!!! This convention is going to be incredible! Sadly I am only attending on Saturday this year which means I am going to have to pack that day with more goodies then a type IV bag of holding! Some of these panels have my nerd loins primed and ready to go! Below I will drool over some of the panels that have me the most excited so far!

The Walking Dead season four part two of is off and running but its not what you'd expect. All of the survivors have been split up into five groups with their own subplots. One group consists of Rick, Carl and Michonne, who are on their way to the mysterious Terminus. Then there is Glenn who is on a mission to find Maggie accompanied by Tara, Sgt. Abraham Ford, Rosita Espinosa and Dr. Eugene Porter. In addition, there is also Maggie who is stringing along Sasha and Bob to aid her in finding Glenn. Oh and by the way, there is also Tyrese playing daddy to Judith, Myka and Lizzie who met up with the wayward Carol before discovering the Terminus sign. Last and certainly not least there is Daryl and Beth, the two unlikeliest characters to be on their own and the one crew with the least amount of screen time this season. However, that all changes after the episode, “Still” as it focuses entirely on them. George Goner I hear screams. Strident, throat-tearing screams, echoing off the downtown buildings in an intensity of pain and loss. I hear them through the apartment complex safety glass windows and locked doors. In the quiet lobby, alone on third shift, I imagine what might cause a human being to make such sounds in the heart of the city. Someone gut-shot in an act of random violence, or cut down at the end of a long-held grudge? Someone who has just found his girlfriend or gay friend (the voice is male) lying on the cold sidewalk, bleeding out their lifeblood into the gutter... Another edition of Comedy On Us! Vol. 24 and this week we find ourselves in the midst of Comedy shows, Contests, Symposiums and even a festival audition show. Lots of announcements and interactive events for Comedy fans and performers alike. There is a new venue opened up to comedy showcases in RI, a recent club closing and possible move and some stage time opportunities for newer comics and even a new segment to invoke comedy gold from guests. All in a week's work for the Corner. See you tonight!
