By Chad Hoyle (@chadillacgrilz) The Oakland-based Hieroglyphics rap crew returns this month with their long-awaited third album The Kitchen. The new album is only the third full length album from the group, and their first since dropping Full Circle in 2003.
It revisits many of the familiar sounds and themes of Hiero past, but lacks some of the magic that made their previous albums underground hip-hop classics. by Rob Duguay The quintessential gypsy punks, Gogol Bordello has been taking the world by storm since their formation in New York City during the late 1990's as a result of a group of musicians from all parts of the globe getting together in New York City to play music that they absolutely love. Led by the Ukrainian wildman Eugene Hütz on lead vocals and guitar, the band's message of cultural revolution and self-liberation is something that anyone from any walk of life can get behind on. Speaking of things you can get behind on, Gogol Bordello's new album Pura Vida Conspiracy just came out yesterday and it exudes the sheer intensity and infectious energy that fans all over have come to endear. The album definitely has that party vibe while at the same time showing a band who are never afraid to up the ante and get all kinds of crazy.

By Chad Hoyle (@chadillacgrilz) Long before Justin Timberlake had the Tennessee Kids, Mayer Hawthorne was crafting his own version of retro soul, rife with falsettos, big band sound, and lovelorn lyrics. Certainly ahead of his time in terms of trend, the Detroit native with origins as a hip-hop DJ and a penchant for Motown has remained relatively under the radar despite releasing two strong, yet niche, solo albums.
With his newest release Where Does this Door Go?, Hawthorne has drawn on a multitude of musical influences to create something remarkably refreshing and never alienating. By Chad Hoyle (@chadillacgrilz) Australian pop duo Empire of the Sun returns with their long awaited second full length LP Ice on the Dune, and I would have preferred to keep waiting. For a band adept at crafting catchy hooks and memorable singles, they seem to have a hard time creating a cohesive album.

According to the Huffington Post, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry reported an 18% increase in vinyl record sales in 2012; making that the highest sales in 15 years. By definition, a digital recording is not capturing, but only approximating (with a series of steps) the full analog audio range that can be found on vinyl. WBOB's 6th Birthday Celebration was a Blast... there was music, comedy, and mini-pigs. But before the celebration began, Chad and Kevin lubed up everyone's ears with some great music during the MOB pre-show.
