Mary E. O'Connor Joan Rivers was placed in a medically induced coma Thursday and remains in critical but stable condition. At approximately 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan from Yorkville Endoscopy, where she underwent a minor procedure on her vocal chords. She stopped breathing during the procedure, which was not a major surgery, though she was under sedation and no one knows how long she was deprived of oxygen. She will remain in a coma until this weekend when doctors will discuss the damage with her daughter, Melissa. No major medical decisions have been made at this time. Melissa and her son, Cooper, flew from Los Angeles to New York, arriving at 8pm EST Thursday evening. Melissa released a statement, saying "I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother," she said. "She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers." We’re praying for you Joan! What a concept.
