Check out who we have playing tonight: Blackbutton: Starting out in 2008 as a hard-hitting drum and guitar duo, Guitarist/vocalist Jordan Tavenner, and original drummer Anshul Jain, toured the New England area and ended their performances at the 2010 SXSW Festival. The band took an indefinite break, while Tavenner explored new musical projects with friends and other musicians. After a two-year hiatus, Tavenner re-established Blackbutton by soliciting help from friend and drummer Justin Emile and Boston newcomer Dave Koslovsky on bass. In 2012, the band started work on new material, preparing for their re-introduction into the Boston music scene. The new trio is heavier and more adventurous, but still manage to maintain the pissed-off attitude that fans expect. In 2013-14, the band will be releasing a string of new single recordings, dubbed The Stripper Series. The singles will only be available for digital download via the band's fan email list. Ants In The Cellar: Ants in the Cellar is a three-piece rock band based out of Providence, RI. The band reinvented itself in 2011 after a long hiatus with new members Anton Lund (drums, vocals) and Bill McGowan (bass, vocals) joining original member Mike Adamowicz (vocals, guitar). Ants in the Cellar draws on a variety of influences (progressive rock, blues, singer/songwriter, new wave). However, they maintain alternative rock roots, with many of their primary influences coming from the diverse collection of indie rock bands that proliferated the “left of the dial” radio scene of the late eighties/early nineties. Young Pandas: Born by the soul of Prince and Bill Withers and wrapped up in the overtones of Passion Pit and Phoenix is the sound of New England based band Young Pandas. Rising out of collaboration on a project with Jason Goldstein, Grammy winning engineer for The Roots, the story of Young Pandas follows a group of musicians hell bent on making music that will last a lifetime. They have a sound that is both edgy and current as well as reminiscent of classic Soul, Hip Hop, and Woodstock Rock & Roll, promoting a modern blend of the raw, organic approach to music while influenced by the sounds of Indie music today. Population Paste: A no-nonsense Rock band from Providence. They try not to adhere to any specific genre or sound for the sake of popularity. Often spending hours upon hours in a musically rigged basement, they rise from below to play Mondays On Blast at The Spot. Check out Population Paste's Facebook page for everything you need to know. As with every Monday at The Spot with 990WBOB, a great time is always guaranteed. Check out 990WBOB's Mondays On Blast page or the Mondays On Blast Facebook event page for more information on what bands will be playing in the future at the ultimate destination to kick the week off right.
