Derelict Dummies #269 10/15/18 - Well the Dummies were in quite the mood on this episode. In between some cool tunes the guys bantered about many topics in the news today. The focus came into play when The McGunks’ drummer Bobby Forand called in to chat about a writing/readings workshop series he is starting once a month at Askew in downtown Providence. The kick off is next week (10/22) and the discussion focused on what to expect and also a little about the discipline and need for feedback that writers share. Then it was back to free for all chaos as the Derelicts tried to make sense of some of the bizarre happenings in the news from environmental issues to the dismembering of a journalist in a Saudi embassy. Warning: Listening to this pastcast may induce a chuckle or two.
Derelict Dummies #268 10/8/18 - Why the fuss over the confirmation of (now) Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh? What difference does it make that he was wild in high school and college? Well if the stories, and yes there are many stories, are true then it’s important to note that your behavior when you’re young determines what kind of adult you’ll become. But don’t take the Dummies word for it. Once again guest host and child development therapist Beth Barron joins the guys to discuss early behavior patterns and their effect on adult decisions and actions. Is it biological? Environmental? Or a combination? Listen and find out.
Derelict Dummies #266 9/24/18 - The double D’s paid homage to the one and only Fred McFeeley Rogers. The theme of the episode was normal child development (a passion for Mr. Rogers) and in studio guest Beth Barron a therapist who works both physically (yoga) and behavioral methodologies joined the conversation that reflected on the documentary (Won’t You Be My Neighbor?) as well as the importance of both positive and negative exposure to a developing child and how it stays with us through adulthood. Pretty heady stuff for these guy’s usual levity, but one of the most interesting episodes in recent memory. You owe it to yourself to listen.
Derelict Dummies #264 9/10/18 - Dummies Kris left Bob so he could go on a sea cruise with his family, but Joe Ferro filled in as guest host and it became a Franchise Revival! First segment we had acknowledged WBOB political guru Scott Rotondo hold over from his show as we discussed the upcoming statewide primaries and what a major national election the midterms in November will be. We also got a call from new horror show host Lee Anne to talk about October programs that will feature some great guests from Hollywood’s spook factories of film. And we tested various flavored stouts to mark the Fall chilly preview of weather. Love this episode
Derelict Dummies #263 8/27/18 - Hi! Derelict Bob here, I’m real interested in hearing this podcast because I was off for the night and Kris did the show with his lovely wife Tara. They discussed the passing of John McCain, fake news and the economic crisis Mrs. Hansen feels is eminent. Great discussion that’s better than a married couple’s arguments.
Derelict Dummies #262 8/20/18 -The Dummies are sick of people in a position of power abusing the trust they have insisted was for our good. This week the Catholic diocese of Pennsylvania was the latest to be exposed as harboring sexual predators within their organization. Over 1000 victims, all children. Should we allow such an organization to remain tax free? And what about Trump’s abuse of power in the office of the president? We trust our lawyers, doctors and teachers to be caretakers of the things most valuable to us. When that trust is eroding, what is left? Interesting show for sure.
Derelict Dummies #261 8/13/18 - The Dummies welcomed special guest Tara Hansen for an hour of cool tunes and chatter. The theme of the evening was lying and the group applied that in discussions involving one of the great bullshitters of all time; Donald Trump. They also focused on the lie of the American Dream and how our economy is hurting getting ahead and based on credit debt that is astronomical in the US.
Derelict Dummies #260 7/30/18 - The show’s first segment was a tribute to David Clyde who passed after a battle with cancer. The Dummies had a special relation with Dave on the 990WBOB airwaves and had the occasion to broadcast together. Some fun thoughts about him were shared, but having an empty Mic 1 in the room was a profound reminder of a great loss. Eventually the topics got political as The Dummies warned of the importance of the November midterms and pondered a President Pence scenario. Yeah it got scary. But then the show rounded off with a discussion of Lindsey Buckingham’s exclusion in the forthcoming Fleetwood Mac tour and as usual the smiles came back.
Derelict Dummies #259 7/9/2018 - Kris and Bob were joined in studio by Bill and Gabriella From Silverteeth who discussed their band and listened to one of their songs, but who also stayed for the entire show to discuss everything else under the sun; including the new SCOTUS nominee. Also guitar instrumentalist Scott Danger Bravo called in to talk with the panel about his upcoming Providence show at Mediator Stage and share a tune. This is a delightful hour of humor , news and music.
Derelict Dummies #257 6/18/18 - This episode, Kris and Bob attempted to address the border crisis of separating illegal immigrant families by grabbing their children away for detention. Luckily it wasn’t all about dire news. Nate Cozzolino from Lost Arts called in to discuss the four year anniversary of his Madcap talent review now featured every Mondays at Dusk. As the show winded down the duo discussed the president’s latest diversion - Space Force. Listen in for fun talk and cool tunes.
