Fox's Bullet Points

Hey there, it’s the one and only Ryan Fox back again to contribute to the sports blogging world. Okay, that being said a lot has happened since I last blogged. Giants won Super Bowl XLVI, there was and wasn’t an NBA Strike (not that anybody really cared), saw a MLB Free Agent Bonanza, including the greatest hitter of our generations packing up his things from St. Louis and heading West, and a bunch of other things that I could talk about but really don’t feel like it.

That being said, there’s a few things that are happening now or about to happen in the near future. I could chat your ear off about them but rather than do that, we’ll do bullet points instead. Fast and to the point, just like what my ex-girlfriend said about me. Ha ha, self-insult.  Any who, onto the bullet points.

  • Peyton Manning Circus
I can’t believe that there can be another Quarterback circus that isn’t about Brett Farve. That being said, this whole thing between Peyton and the Colts has been going on this entire season. The whole thing just one pain in the neck. Hah!

But any who, the Colts have the #1 pick overall in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft and there’s a lot of speculation to say the least on who they are drafting (Some overrated QB coming out of Stanford I keep hearing about). As this drama unfolds we keeping hearing the same things over and over again: ‘Peyton’s healing time table is not on track, he needs to retire s’ or ‘Peyton’s on the right track, he wants to continue to play’ or, my personal favorite, ‘The Colts should trade their 36 y/o and rebuild.'

Already the Colts have begun ‘talks’ on renegotiating Peyton’s contract (spoiler alert, he’ll be back in Indy in 2012) but the fact of the matter is that we don’t know how Peyton is going to be in 2012.

The only one who knows how Peyton is going to be and where Peyton is going to play in 2012 is well…you get the idea. Talk to me in like 4 months and we’ll continue this circus. Speaking of circuses, there’s one big circus that seems to have taken everybody by storm and that circus is called…

  • Lin-Sanity
Okay first off, I am a Knicks fan. The fact that they’ve been winning what like 8 games out of 9, we’re back to .500 and that we potentially have a Point Guard that can help us run the pick-and-roll system of Mike D’Antoni. That being said, this is a tricky subject.

On one hand, Jeremy Lin came out of almost nowhere and began putting up big numbers in this winning streak, including 3  double-double games, and has gotten the Garden rocking again. That being said, the media is over-hyping him to the point where they believe he could be one of the greats to play the position. He’s good, he’s serviceable, but he’s not great. Not just yet.

During the span of games he’s played, Jeremy Lin has turned over the ball 53 times, including 9 in a loss against the New Orleans Hornet last Saturday. That being said, I hope Jeremy Lin continues to succeed. Not every day you see a guy who just plays the game because he wants to, not because of the money and fame. And he doesn't let the fame get to him, he’s very humble. And speaking of humble, or rather being humbled, we turn to….
  • ‘Melo Drama p.2’
Melo Drama p.1 happened last year when Current Power Forward/Small Forward Carmelo Anthony. That being said, now that Melo is coming back from missing some time due to a groin injury, almost everybody and their grandma is saying he’s going to ruin the chemistry and they should just trade him.

First off, wasn’t he the ‘Superstar’ Knicks fans wanted last year to compliment Stoudemire? Second, you traded almost ¼ of your team away to get him. Third, he’s a pure-scorer. That’s what he’s been for his entire career. He’s the guy you give the ball and tell him to go take a shot. He’s not selfish. And fourth, who do you think is Jeremy Lin’s biggest supporter? Here’s a hint: you want him off your team now. So enough with the whole ‘Melo will ruin the chemistry’ or ‘We can trade him for picks and such’ and all that idiotic bulls**t.

Talk to me in 20 games and see what happens. And speaking of games, there is definitely one game you would never catch me watching at all. That game happens to take place during…

  • NBA All-Star Break
Picture
To summarize it up in a few short words: Boring as crap.

It’s just one big exhibition game blown out of proportion. I think I would find watching an NBA Summer League more exciting than the All-Star Game. It’s just a bunch of ‘Stars’ doing an over glorified scrimmage. Top off with a lame shooting contest you can do in any arcade, a game you play during recess, and perhaps the most overrated, most bastarized sporting event that isn’t the Home Run derby.

Instead of tuning into the All-Star Farce, I rather turn into something that has a lot more excitement, a lot more drama. Something like…

  • March Madness
The reason why I brought this topic up was for the fact that this upcoming event is going to be on every single sports news TV and radio show. We’re all going to constantly hear for the days leading up to it are teams that deserve to be in, teams that didn’t deserve to get in but got in, and then everybody’s favorite topic of teams that didn’t get in but should have gotten in. So basically a lot of whiney little b****s complaining the ball didn’t bounce their way. Boo-freakin’-hoo.

Picture
That being said, what attracts me to March Madness is the excitement of it all. Who doesn’t want to see the best of the best play against one another, putting everything on the court for the chance of collegian basketball immortality?

Who doesn’t want to see a Cinderella team like a George Mason, a Gonzaga, an Iowa State University, or a Virginia Commonwealth University upset a powerhouse team like a Kansas or a Duke? Who doesn’t want to hear Dick Vitale just absolutely pour his emotions into his broadcast for over 2 hours? So as the days wind down, get your brackets ready cause March Madness is coming soon.
