This off-season has the potential to be one of the biggest free agency/trade heavy off season in quite some time. Where will Mike Vick end up? Will Flacco re-sign? Who else will the Giants cut? Do the Patriots spend on a big time receiver? I will do my best to help ease your mind division by division. Let's start with the AFC West, Why? Because it is the weakest division with the most need for improvement. So, lets get to work. Kansas City Chiefs
Team Needs: QB, OL, WR The Chiefs have a lot of work to do this off-season, and have a two year plan in my eyes to become more successful. Let's Start with the QB situation Geno Smith is on the board and with the number one pick it seems obvious for the Chiefs to select Geno, Right? Wrong in order for the Chiefs to feel comfortable taking Smith they would have trade down and this is not the "power packed draft" for that to happen. So my theory is the Chiefs will select Bjoern Werner, the Defensive End is not a need but they really wanna bulk up on defensive and Bjoern fits that bill pairing him off with Tamba Hali might make the Chiefs elusive on defense. The other option is Luke Joeckel. There is a need for for O-Line help a big need for that matter and Joeckel could be the Tony Boselli of the draft, this pick seems logical. So where does that leave the QB situation if they do not draft Geno Smith? Going into free agency possibly making a move. I do not see Joe Flacco leaving the Ravens, The most logical answer for the chiefs maybe one that could bring a lot of media attention. Tim Tebow is being washed away on the Jets and with no hope being the starter the Chiefs could answer fans prayers (no pun intended). Oakland Raiders Team Needs: OL, CB, DL The Raiders need a lot of help no denying that, but they are also in luck cause there needs are either in the draft or free agency. Let's look at the needs; Mainly on defense the Raiders could produce a good off-season Cornerback is the biggest need for the Raiders, they two shut down corners that can blanket the top receivers in the league. Dee Millner from Alabama makes sense fro the Raiders in the draft at the number three pick he provides size, good hands, and great at playing the ball. I don't think the Raiders will go in this direction with OLB Jarvis Jones or DT Star Loutoui possibly staring in there face I see the Raiders picking one of the two. Which leaves me with the question what will the Raiders do in free agency? Well, they 4.5 million under the cap and that is not including the more than possible cuts to Tommy Kelly, and few pieces on the O-line that have not panned out. Three guys I see the Raiders going after are Greg Jennings, Fred Davis, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Greg Jennings is Familiar with GM Mike Mckenzie and the Raiders need an established veteran in the WR position. The Raiders having one TE under contract Fred Davis a Pro-Bowl TE could really contribute to this offense. DRC can be a play maker and a descent #2 CB, but it still does not solve the problem in the secondary. Dwayne Bowe, Jake Long, and Antonio Cromartie are all possibilities as well, will the Raiders get back to glory? It starts now. San Diego Chargers Team Needs: LB, CB, DE The Chargers are the biggest question mark in the NFL. Phillip Rivers is a good QB when he has a running game, and a defense that can protect his lead. When Norv Turner takes over a team his biggest problem is he abandons a defense and throws the game plan out the window almost every game. Mike Mccoy is the new head coach for the Chargers needs to implement a defensive atmosphere for them to be successful. How do they do that? Simple, draft defense which I expect the Chargers to do. Dee Millner is a possibility, so is DT Jonathon Hankins. They need to stop the run and the big passes like they gave up last season these are to future NFL players that can do so. Free agency is another issue for the Chargers a name that comes to mind for the Chargers is RB Amahad Bradshaw. They need a good pairing with the injury plagued Ryan Matthews. Bradshaw provides a tough back with a winning mentality that could help the Chargers develop a solid running game for the next few years. I do not see the Chargers doing much in free agency I see more in the draft where the Chargers should have more success. Denver Broncos Team Needs: SS, OL, FB The Broncos Really do not need much to be on top of the division again. They need to lock up Terry Porter which I do believe they will and pick up a few pieces to help Peyton be Peyton and they should be right back in the Super Bowl hunt. In the draft I see the them going with CB Jonathon Banks from Mississippi State, Banks could be an instant impact for the Broncos as a late round steal. Free Agency I see the broncos getting a few role players, really nothing major. The thing is the Broncos do not have much cap and have little room for improvement so I see them being pretty much the same team they were last year, and that is a good thing if you are a Broncos fan. -Stephen Moul |
