It was a perfect night for some baseball as the Pawtucket Red Sox hosted the Louisville Bats for the first meeting of the season between the two teams. It was also a perfect night for the McCoy faithful to support their beloved Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady on "On 'Free Tom Brady Night.' Taking the mound for the PawSox was SP Roenis Elias (3-3, 4.00) as he was making his case to be the 5th starter for the Boston Red Sox.
It was an interesting contest to say the least with 5 errors committed as well as 5 hit batsmen (PawSox CF Ryan LaMarre was plunked twice). PawSox were able to get on the board first in the bottom of the first with 3 runs scored to jump to an early 3-0 lead off the bats of LF Bryce Brentz, DH Jantzen Witte, and RF Henry Ramos. The PawSox then tacked on 2 more runs to push the lead to 5-0. The Bats were able to score a run in the eighth to avoid the shutout but that was about it as the PawSox took the series opener with the final score of 5-1.
Elias himself had a strong outing. He ended up going 7 innings while giving up 0 runs and 0 walks while striking out 7 Bat batters in the process. After the game, PawSox skipper Kevin Boles spoke with the media on his team's performance as well as a variety of topics. Click Play to Listen |
