The boys are back in Pawtucket, the season is in full bloom, and that means one thing and one thing only: The 990WBOB Weekly PawSox Update. If you are a fan of the PawSox and want to keep track of them then look no further. Here’s what you missed this past week. Where They Stand The season is still young but the games that you play in April can affect you come September and October. Currently the PawSox are sporting a 5-4 record, including a 4-3 record at McCoy and 1-1 on the road. Interestingly enough, they have the same amount of wins as the division leading Buffalo Bison (5). However according to the percentage points, the Bison’s .714 winning percentage trump the PawSox’s .556. Just the Stats Jack The following statistics represent that of the regular season statistics of the PawSox through the first few games of the regular season games At the plate: -INF Brock Holt leads the team in the early goings in the following categories: batting average (.481), on-base percentage (.548), slugging (.704), on-base plus slugging (1.252), total bases (19), hits (13) runs scored (8), and stolen bases (3) -Four PawSox players are tied for most games played (8): LF Alex Hassan, RF Bryce Brentz, C/1B Ryan Lavarnway, and 3B Garin Cecchini. -Haasan also leads the team in at-bats with 30. -Brentz and Cecchini both lead the team in runs batted in (7 apiece) -1B/3B Brandon Snyder leads the team in home runs (2) On the mound: - SP Rubby De La Rosa, Jeremy Kehrt, Allen Webster, and Anthony Ranaudo are tied for most starts for pitchers with 2 apiece. - RP Rich Hill, Drake Britton, Chris Resop lead all pitchers in game appearances with 4 apiece. -RP Dalier Hinojosa leads the team in walks allowed (7) and opponent’s batting average (.067) - De La Rosa leads all pitchers in ERA (0.84), WHIP (0.56), and innings pitched (10.2) - Ranaudo leads the team in strikeouts (11) as well as hits allowed (11) -Resop leads the team in wins (2) - Britton and fellow RP Brayan Villarreal lead the team in saves with 1 apiece. The two major highways many PawSox players will become familiar with this season. Player Movements: The 2014 MiLB season is still in its infancy stage. However the PawSox have made a few minor moves due to the needs of their parent baseball club (Boston Red Sox). Most notably the likes of on Brock Holt as he was called up one day and got sent back down 1 hour before he could have his first major league debut of the 2014. 4/3/14 - Received RP Craig Breslow from Boston (MLB) on rehab assignment 4/6/14 - Sent INF Brock Holt Brock Holt up to Boston (MLB) 4/7/14 - Received INF Brock Holt from Boston (MLB) 4/9/14 - Received RP Brandon Workman from Boston (MLB) - Sent RP Craig Breslow to Boston (MLB) after completing rehab assignment 4/10/14 - Sent OF Peter Hissey to Portland (AA) The Numbers Game For all you numbers fans out there, here’s a little something to wet your whistle. Some of 15 – The number of wins last year for the PawSox in the month of April. The PawSox have 5 wins in the season and have 18 days left to surprise the 15-win mark. 6 – Number of errors committed by the PawSox as a team, tying them with the Gwinnett Braves and Louisville Bats for 3rd fewest errors committed. 3.49 – The team’s combined ERA in the opening week of the season, placing them in 6th for lowest ERA in the International League. 40 – Number of runs scored this season for the PawSox, placing them 4th in the International League in that category. 4 – Number of players left on the roster that were in both the 2012 & 2013 Governors’ Cup squads (RF Bryce Brentz, C Dan Butler, SP Chris Hernandez, and RP Alex Wilson) 79 – The height of SP Anthony Ranuado, the tallest member of the team, in inches. The Great Northern New York Road Trip Currently the PawSox are in the middle of an 8-game road trip in the great woods of Northern New York. They are currently in Buffalo taking on the Bison in a 4-game series that started this past Thursday (4/10) and will finish up Sunday (4/13). Then it’s a 4-day stay in Rochester as the PawSox take on the Red Wings from 4/14 to 4/17. That’s it for your PawSox Weekly Update.
