Sox have reason to smile after first 2-0 start snce 1999
Yes it was just one game but for an afternoon in the Bronx it looked like the 2013 version of the Boston Red Sox may bring hope back to Beantown. Some of the positives coming out of opening day were the debut of Jackie Bradley Jr, the performance from Jon Lester & what looks to be a rock solid bullpen.

Lester's final line wasn't Cy Young worthy but he looked like a different pitcher than in years past. He was able to get himself out of trouble when needed & his overall attitude & demeanor were a lot more positive. He needs to be a huge part of this team & it looks like he may be up to the challenge. JBJ looked like a savvy veteran both at the plate & in the field. His at bats against CC Sabathia were very impressive. The sky is the limit for this kid and he brings a fresh breath of air into this team. The bullpen was rebuilt & after one game it looks like it could be one of the strengths of the team. Again it was just one game but let’s be honest here. The Red Sox had to win one of these first couple games to help escape the memory of years past. Luckily for them, it was opening day.

Yes, there are still 161 games to play but after the first afternoon they stand at 1-0 & all is good in Boston.
