The Kansas City Royals lead the early American league fan balloting for the 2016 MLB All-Star Game, the league announced. Catcher Salvador Perez leads all players in balloting as he has received 1,094,942 votes as of Tuesday. Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has the second-most votes with 963,076 as he looks to make his 10th and final All-Star game. Ortiz has not played in the All-Star game since 2013. In all seven positions, the Royals have a player within the top three of the voting. First baseman Eric Hosmer is the only other leading player at his respective position. Toronto Blue Jays star and American League MVP Josh Donaldson edged out Mike Trout for the most votes with 14,090,188 ballots cast. Last year, the Royals had seven players at last year's All-Star game. The 2016 All-Star game will be held on July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego. |
