I’m Sending My Son Away, Because My Wife is an “Essential” Worker. It’s time to Lock it Down.4/2/2020 Mya Destinee I’m sending my son away to a beautiful little house deep in the woods of West Kingston. For a month. With relatives who are not me or my wife. There, he has a big back yard and an old dog named Zoe who looks like it could easily win that weird contest to see who’s dog is the ugliest dog. A little mutt who was taken years ago, but has been a loyal companion ever since. He will be happy, safe and most importantly, his risk of being exposed to COVID-19 are reduced greatly. Why, in the world, would I send away my most precious and loved thing, my blood, away? My wife is an essential worker who works for a major mail carrier that no one in the world can live without, apparently. A major mail carrier who knows it’s only a matter of time before their whole organization is sick . The organization itself is ill prepared with no masks, gloves or sanitizer. They cannot even come close to guaranteeing their workers safety, all in the name of getting Kathy her package from Amazon in time. God forbid her duvet cover is delayed. In agonizing conversations with my relatives, in heartbreakingly packing my son's bags, in putting him in the car with tears in my eyes and a promise to see him soon, this is the new normal for families with essential workers at home. In an attempt to keep my son safe, the on;y choice I had was to send him away. This. Is. Not. Good. Enough. Not for my family or any other family in America. Lack of supplies, over buying, douchebag spring breakers and the all encompassing bottom line and the health of that line is a very real threat to our Country. The Administration's inability to keep their lies and stories straight are abysmal. We are American Families, and we are scared. We’ve got an orange man at a podium spewing out lie after lie, denying help to Governors and states who were not good to him, rejecting pleas for ventilators, but making sure the nation knows his press conferences have higher ratings than The Bachelor. Some of us have been saying since this man took office, like we feel like we’re in an alternate reality. Where it feels like someone went back in time and accidentally killed a butterfly that led to this whole mess to begin with. This is the worst of the worst times in America and it is literally tearing families apart. Governor Raimondo, laughing slightly at the beginning of today's press briefing talks about the kids, the new deaths, the huge uptick in cases, whilst wearing a beautiful suit, not a goddamn hair out of place. Her pearl earrings reflect light as if she’s in a pageant show. Her shoes without a single scuff mark or a speck of dirt. Her promising she’s doing everything she can in this situation. I’ve lost all hope in our local and national governments as the bottom line paramount's safety every single time. It’s time to put Rhode Island on a lockdown. It is the only way to prevent this Virus from quite literally killing thousands of people, Rhode Island people, People who vote and work and pay taxes and don’t want to die because of lack of ventilators or gloves. To the nurses, doctors, essential workers, we are with you! This is scary and it's hard and the choices we have to make to keep our families safe are hard ones. May the government put YOU first, instead of the almighty dollar. Signing off, frustrated, heartbroken and angry- till next time. Read More 990WBOB |
