Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down 10 cents from last week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s January 12th survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.30 per gallon, down 10 cents from last week.

Prices locally are 45 cents lower than a month ago. The current price is 17 cents more than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.13. A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $1.22 higher at $3.52.

“Today’s survey signals five weeks of double digit decreases, and 19 consecutive weeks of falling prices.  So the downward trend certainly has significant momentum at this point,” said Lloyd P. Albert, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs at AAA Northeast.
The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 35 cents, from a low of $2.11 to a high of $2.46. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up- every trip, every time.

Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows:

$2.309 ($2.119-$2.469) - Regular Unleaded
$2.609 ($2.399-$2.899) - Midgrade Unleaded
$2.749 ($2.499-$3.179) - Premium Unleaded
$3.049 ($2.859-$3.669) - Diesel

Find the most up-to-date local gas prices with the AAA Fuel Finder by logging onto AAA.com and clicking on Gas Saving Tips & Tools. AAA members can also obtain a copy of the Gas Watcher’s Guide at their local AAA Northeast office.

AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week

Lighten the load. Don’t haul unnecessary weight in the passenger compartment, trunk or cargo area of your vehicle. A heavier vehicle uses more gas.
