LISTEN: URI Student Recalls March with French at Charlie Hedbo Rally

This week on the Wild Side, host David Clyde was joined by a local student who recounted his once-in-a-lifetime experience as a participant in one of the most powerful social demonstrations in modern history.

When the world's attention shifted to France in early January following a tragic terrorist attack on a satirical magazine, four URI students and one professor were among the nearly 4 million people who flooded the streets of Paris in solidarity. 

University of Rhode Island Sophomore Ian Kanterman arrived in Paris by train the day after the January 7 attacks on Charlie Hebdo with three other URI students traveling with French Professor Lars Erickson as part of URI’s J Term program, which allows students to take classes during winter break and to travel with professors for unique international experiences and academic credit.
