The Rhode Island Carpenters Union Local 94 today endorsed independent candidate for General Treasurer Ernie Almonte. "Ernie Almonte has the qualifications, certifications, and credentials necessary to run the Treasurer's office and protect the money invested by the state," said Tom Savoie, Financial Secretary/Treasurer of Local 94. "Rhode Islanders cannot afford to risk their tax dollars in the hands of an unqualified Treasurer." "The Treasurer should not be in the business of gambling with people's pensions," said Almonte. "Fiscal responsibility is crucial in the Treasurer's office, and as Treasurer, I will work to ensure Rhode Islanders who dutifully pay into their pension plans will enjoy a safe and secure retirement." After taking office, Almonte will implement his Vision for Rhode Island, a detailed plan to restore confidence in Rhode Island's finances. The plan outlines steps to protect public employees' pensions, ensure accountability in the Treasury, provide municipalities with sound financial advice, and improve financial literacy across Rhode Island. Almonte is a CPA and forensic auditor with more than 35 years of financial and managerial experience. He is running for General Treasurer because he believes Rhode Islanders deserve more from their elected officials. The Rhode Island Carpenters Local 94 is a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, which is one of North America's largest trade unions. It represents more than 20,000 workers from the New England Area. More WBOB Reads |
