RI GOP Chairman Mark Smiley, in both his individual capacity as a qualified elector and in his capacity with the Rhode Island Republican Party, filed an objection with the Rhode Island State Board of Elections and the office of the Secretary of State on Monday. This objection is in regard to the Moderate Party of Rhode Island's nomination of Mr. Robert J Healey, Jr. as the Moderate Party's substitute candidate for the Office of Governor of the State of Rhode Island. The Republican Party is extremely concerned that the Moderate Party has circumvented the legitimate electoral process for nominating a candidate for office. The objection was filed to ensure that the Moderate Party's nomination of Mr. Robert J Healey, Jr. was in full compliance with all applicable State of Rhode Island election laws and that every vote cast in the upcoming general election is properly and fairly counted. The Republican Party will have no further comment until this matter is fully resolved by the Board of Elections or the Rhode Island Supreme Court. Read the complaint here |
