When does a post on Facebook become too long? Should FB have character limits like Twitter?
I guess it depends on the information. A heartfelt impromptu eulogy for a well-known friend within the community can be inspirational and comforting. I might even enjoy reading a funny joke now and then. But they’re some folks out there that use it as a platform for rage. They’ll spew out a half page sentence and end by promising to “thin the herd” by deleting a few so and so’s from their all exclusive friend’s list.
Hell, I can put up with a good ‘comment fight’ any day (even though sometimes I would prefer they take it to the private message box), over some of these blog length tell-offs. I enjoy following a quirky and funny rant that is cleverly written; not a transcript of Jerry Springer-ish bashing that makes you want to side with the intended recipient(s).
I think they (whoever “they” may be) should start a forum for these public humiliations. It could be called something like PrimalScream or Bitchslap.com.
Who knows what kind of unique language and acronyms will develop with time?
YKWYA (you know who you are) or YDKWYSW (you don’t know who your screwing with) could become as common as lol (although it hardly seems possible).
Maybe a phone app is in order, where you can have a celebrity sound-a-like deliver a final smackdown phone call or message. I can hear Dylan’s snarl now telling someone off (“You used to be a diplomat traveling with a Siamese cat; you!”). I’d call it CelebrityPissOff, CandorCrush or AngryBitch.
I realize that there is a need for such A.D.S. (Anger Delivery Systems) just by the amount of carnage I witness on a daily basis through my news feed. I also notice that allot of these scoldings are posted very late at night or in the early morning hours (pre-dawn), which makes me think drinking or just the end of a too long bad day may be responsible for the apparent rage.
So, next time you notice one of these tirades, have a small amount of mercy. You have to take into consideration that so far Facebook is the only outlet these people have. After all, its not everyone who gets a forum to blog on.
