Baron Dethroned

University of Rhode Island has dismissed Men's Basketball Head Coach Jim Baron with 2 years remaining on his contract.  Baron's Rhody Rams finished out the season with a record of 7-24, 13th in the Atlantic 10. Since his arrival in 2001, the Rams have had a record of 184-166, including five NIT appearances, and six 20-Win seasons.  Baron however, failed to bring his team to the big dance in 11 seasons.

Baron seemed to assemble offensive oriented teams that were good but never great. His recruiting was fairly weak, never bringing in marquee talent while in Rhode Island.

New England College Basketball in general has been lackluster in recent years (UConn being the exception).  At one point, the Northeast featured some of the best collegiate athletics... but that time has passed.
