After thirteen seasons as the skipper of the Minnesotta Twins Ron Gardenhire is out. The Twins today fired the beloved Gardnehire after the team's third consecutive 90 loss season.

In 2002, Gardenhire was named manager of the Twins and won the AL Manager of the year in 2010.

What can I say about the Captain that hasn't been said already? Derek Jeter played, appreciated respected and loved the game the way it was supposed to be. The picture perfect model for those teaching the game. A man's man. A legend and a true professional. The game will feel the loss of this true ambassador but his memory will live on in baseball folk lore perhaps forever.

On behalf of true baseball fans everywhere I'd like to simply say thank you Mr. Jeter.

The post season is finally upon and this year there is one reoccurring theme in the AL Wildcard match up,  the number 29.

  • This odd number 29 represents the number of wins the Oakland Athletics had after the All Star break. That's the least amount of wins in the history of the game post break. After making blockbuster trades for pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jon Lester the Athletics only limped into the playoffs. Upon acquiring both big name arms the A's were sitting n first place in the AL West.

  • It's been 29 years since the Kansas City Royals were in the playoffs. That's nearly three decades to put that in perspective most of the Royals 40 man roster wasn't even born in 1985.
