Time For a Shamrock Shakeup?

Two weeks ago, the Boston Celtics sat atop the Atlantic Division. Defying all expectations, they were posting nearly as many wins as losses, and were poised to become a top seed in the Eastern Conference.

They still lead division rivals New York and Brooklyn, but after losing seven of ten, they have succumbed to their expectations.  In their last three games, all losses, they have failed to execute in the final minutes -- including Friday night, when they fell to the New Orleans Pelicans at home.

Time to shuffle the deck?

With just over a month remaining before the trade deadline, it's time for the Celtics to establish a plan.  On one hand, as the team seems to have become unified under head coach Brad Stevens; and with several draft picks under their control, the Celts could make a move to bring in a much-needed big man to control the paint.  Boston currently ranks 23rd in rebounding.

On the other hand, with Rajon Rondo on the mend, his expiring contract would be valuable to a more competitive team in need of veteran backcourt presence.  At 29 years old, Rondo may not be part of Ainge's long term future goals for the Green, especially if he will demand a max contract deal next season.

Rondo's Recovery

Rondo has become very active in his attempts to return to action.  He apparently approached management, seeking competitive bodies to practice against art full speed.  He also requested (unsuccessfully) an assignment to the Maine Red Claws of the NBADL to get some game speed reps ahead of his return.  Expect Rondo to be back in action sooner rather than later... but perhaps wearing different laundry.
