Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Suspended For GQ Comments

If everyone else is afraid to say it, I will, GROW UP! I direct those words at  not whom you may think. After hearing the news that Phil Robertson had been indefinitely suspended due to his remarks in GQ, I must admit I became agitated.

"It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical," Phil Robertson is quoted as saying in the latest edition of GQ.

If you are unfamiliar with the show Duck Dynasty then you are clearly going to miss the point on this. Briefly put Duck Dynasty is a reality based program about a self described redneck family success story.  The Robertson family is a strong bunch, working together in an almost lackadaisical but loving fashion. Although the Robertsons maybe a  bit old school, they are proud, moralistic family. Produced and aired on A&E, Duck Dynasty has been a huge success. However this show almost never saw the light of day. Upon original production of the first season A&E executives feared that the Robertson's strong Christian values, may not play to a mainstream audience. They also protested family patriarch Phil's insistence on ending each episode with a prayer. Now at the height of the show's success further controversy has come into play and this time the A&E big wigs are not willing to be so understanding.

This week GQ magazine released an article in which Phil Robertson was interviewed. He compares homosexuality to bestiality calling it a sin. "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men." He goes on to say on the topic of homosexuality "It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical," These remarks have caused the A&E brass to release to suspend Phil from shooting. "We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson's comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,"

Now I don't know were he was going with the whole bestiality statement, however I would like to point out one simple fact here, this is still America. The home of free  thought and especially free speech. His remarks were not harmful to anyone. He certainly was not inciting hate and oh yeah, let's not forget, he's a REDNECK! By his own admission he is "white trash", he's not claiming to be anything other than that. Except maybe the head of the Robertson clan. For the record I happen to agree with his remarks in regards to the vagina. I am a straight man and proud of it. Is that even ok anymore? Fact of the matter is I find certain gay parades offensive, I do not see those coming to end anytime soon. No one rushes to the defense of the uncomfortable straight man being harassed by the pushy gay guy. Don't miss read this. I have nothing against the gay and lesbian community. I do have a problem with people of this country's convenient sensitivity. Let's all be hyper sensitive to the the homosexual community because it is wrong to hate. Sound good? However if some man or woman doesn't care for their way of life and has something to say about it, then that should be just as acceptable. Society should just as tolerant with free speech as it is with sexuality.
