Rhode Islanders that they have until Sunday, August 10th to register to vote in the September 9th Primary Election.

"I want to remind voters to check their voter registration status at www.sos.ri.gov/vic to make sure their voter registration status is active, or register to vote if they haven’t done so already, so they may make their voices heard during this year’s September Primary Election," said Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis.
State law requires Rhode Islanders to register to vote at least 30 days before the primary.  In order to register, you must be at least 18 years old by November 4, 2014, a resident of Rhode Island and a U.S. citizen.  You must be at least 18 years old by September 9, 2014 in order to vote in the primary.

Although the August 10th deadline falls on a Sunday, Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis will open his office at 148 West River Street in Providence, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to register voters.  Local cities and towns throughout Rhode Island will also make arrangements for residents to register before the deadline.

To find out where to register in your local city/town on Sunday, August 10th, 2014, please visit www.sos.ri.gov/elections/resources/lastdaytoregister/ for a complete list of cities/towns, times and locations.
"We are working with every local city and town to ensure that everyone who is interested in registering to vote, has pertinent information about where to register and what to bring in order to register before the deadline," said Mollis.

Rhode Islanders can also download voter registration forms from the Secretary of State's website at www.sos.ri.gov/elections/voters/.  In order to make the deadline, applicants' original, signed form must be received by their local Board of Canvassers by August 10, 2014 or be postmarked by this date.

In addition to targeting first-time voters, the special Sunday schedule gives voters who have moved or changed their names recently a convenient way to update their voter records as required by state law.

This year's primary will include races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and Statewide General Offices as well as General Assembly and municipal seats.

The Secretary of State's office prepares the ballots for all federal, state and municipal elections held in Rhode Island.  In addition, the office maintains the statewide voter registration list, promotes voter registration and turnout, and creates guides to running for office and voting.

Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis is committed to making it easier for Rhode Islanders to vote, making it easier to do business in Rhode Island and making government more open and accessible.  For more information about registering to vote, the office of Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis is available to help.
Please visit sos.ri.gov or call (401) 222-2340.
