Just ahead of Memorial Day, which marks one of the top beer selling holidays of the year and the start of the summer beer selling season, a new economic impact study shows America's beer industry contributes $876 million annually to Rhode Island's economy and supports 7,161 jobs in the state.

It’s nearly been 120 days without a championship parade in Boston. Unless you live under a rock, you know there’s a great possibility of another one coming soon, as the Bruins take on the St. Louis Blues in this year’s Stanley Cup Finals. Christian Martinelli
This week one news report almost gave me a heart attack to end it all. Out of nowhere it was reported that Ed Cooley was the top coaching candidate for the men’s basketball team at the University of Michigan. The whole Providence College community thought that they were seeing double or having some sort of elaborate dream, because nobody would’ve expected to hear aliens were taking over the Earth before this was reported. Ed Cooley was born and raised in South Providence, Rhode Island. He grew up as an All-Stater at Central High School, going on to have a nice college career at Stonehill, then immediately became a coach. Cooley moved from school to school throughout New England before finally landing his dream job in his home city, head coach of the Providence Friars men’s basketball team.

Welcome PawSox fans of all ages to WBOB’s PawSox Weekly Notebook, a weekly guide to all what’s happening with your Pawtucket Red Sox. That’s enough of the pleasantries so let’s get down to business. This past week, the PawSox came back to Pawtucket to host 2 series against 2 different teams at home. One of them, the Gwinnett Stripers, the PawSox had just finished playing against them during the previous weekend and end up getting swept by them. Not to mention that joining the team were a slew of Boston Red Sox players who were on an injury rehab assignment, including one familiar face that all PawSox fans should know. With that being said, let’s take a look and see what happened this past week.

On a calm, sunny Friday evening the Pawtucket Red Sox played host to the Gwinnett Stripers in the first game of a 3-game weekend series. Earlier in the month, the PawSox played the Stripers down in Lawrenceville, Georgia, in a 3-game weekend series but the Stripers ended up sweeping. Taking the mound for the PawSox was LHP Matthew Kent (0-0, 3.60) as the Stripers countered with LHP Kelly Allard (2-2, 4.00). There was a special guest in the house at McCoy Stadium. Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia was with the team as he was continuing his MLB injury rehab assignment for knee discomfort. This was actually Pedroia’s 2nd time rehabbing with the PawSox in 2 years as he was with the team for 5 games in May of 2018 while rehabbing for his knee. He joined fellow Red Sox players 2B/Util. Brock Holt and LHP Brian Johnson, both in their own rehab assignment with the PawSox. |
