Brett Smiley today challenged Buddy Cianci to a debate on the topic of ethics, government accountability, and the cost of corruption to the city.

Like him or hate him Buddy Cianci wins this week. He had the media in the palm of his hand on Wednesday as everyone waited to find out: will he or won’t he run for mayor. In the end he did making national headlines. In observance of National HIV Testing Day, June 27, the Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) encourages all Rhode Islanders ages 13-64 to get tested for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) at least once or more often as needed to help ensure the long-term health for themselves, as well as for any newborn child, sexual partner, or other important relationship in their lives.

Last week I reviewed the debate between Rhode Island Republican gubernatorial hopefuls Cranston’s Mayor Allen Fung and software and traffic control device entrepreneur, Moderate Party Founder, Ken Block. In “Fung Holds the Field in First Debate” I argued that Fung had won the entire debate, with Block failing to score in the first half at all and merely appearing to be at least more involved in the second half, but to little effect. After months of speculation over whether he would seek his old office at City Hall, former Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci declared his candidacy Wednesday, and will run as an independent. |
