A Nerd's Recollection

2013 has finally been killed. It took a whole year of effort but that year is totally dead. During those 365.25 days I had been nerding so hard , I daresay it was the nerdiest of all time for me.(maybe1999 was when I played final fantasy 8 for like 8000 hours..its close). In classical retrospective style,  I’d like to share with you the my nerdiest moments of 2013...for better or worse!!!

The UN-successful boycott of Smoooowwg!


I tried as hard as I could but I could not bring down Smaug, for he is a mighty beast that still managed to pull in 190.3 million and still in theaters this week.( Huffpost Hernon) Tried as I may, from the on-air flaming to an incensed blog post there was nothing I could do. Why all the hatorade you ask? Did you see that first one? I'm not gonna get into in on a retro blog buuuut, you coming this Wednesday on the comics corner myself and the talented Mr. Dan Martin are going to get into a hot and heavy point counter point about those pieces of crap, guess which point I’m going to make?

The Discovery of Dungeon Crawl Classics, AKA “DCC”


Dungeon Crawl Classics; What a Fucking game!!!! This pen and paper RPG is sooooo awesome this little paragraph cannot even come close to expressing how much I love this game and how it embodies the momentum shift of getting back to roots and market fatigue of the pen and paper market. This game takes a lot of every ones favorite parts of current editions of Dungeons and Dragons and blends it over a rich flavorful rule set that give you the feeling of play D&D like back in the day. Its Random and you will die! Rolls can kill you and there is no “builds”. For a while the market thought D&D could only be saved by making it more like a video RPG, but as it turns out that is dead ass wrong! If I want to play video games I will. Please take them out of my table top please.


Ultra-marine codex released


    Man, I almost bought the $120 limited edition Ultramarine Codex from the games workshop site...almost. The minute those went on sale I was gonna buy one then gave myself the day to think about it. Later that evening after a few drinks I said “I NEEDS IT!” Then was going to buy it on my phone, of course it was sold out. So I got the $60 one instead, I am Fails!

The genesis of something beautiful: Multiverse comics was born!

   
    So lastly on the list for this brief retrospective is something glorious. Not only did a buddy of mine realize a great dream, but also it is less then a 3 minute walk from my house. Multiverse comics opened at 265 Broadway. If you have not been, you needs must go. The store is beautiful and well stocked and the staff will guide your soft n00bie comic reading hands to all the choicest comics on their bountiful and fecund shelves. This place kills it!!!!!!


2013 was a great year for nerds, too many things to mention, some you know about and some you will never hear about from the secret and occult world of High-nerdery. Hopefully in the new year of 2014 I will be able to game-master you into the dark world of pleasures that is being a nerd!
