Laurie Piatkowski Roaming around Jamestown RI in the lovely summer HEAT! I came across A package store called Jamestown wines and spirits. Looked good so I wandered in and right before my very eyes was the craft brew isle, looked a little closer and found Mayflowers Thanksgiving Ale. Now don't panic I know it's not thanksgiving but the fact that this bottle has a turkey on it intrigued me and I am a fan of Ales. Turns out This is a seasonal beer unique to Mayflower brewing Company, their thanksgiving ale is a descendant take on an Englishstyle old ale brewed with a rich array of barley and rye malts and aged on toasted American oak, and For those who want to know exactly what the barley and rye are used they are All Maris Otter Pale Malts, Crystal Rye, Belgian Golden Naked Oats, Flaked Barley, Carafa III, and touch of Brown Sugar. Once I got it home I poured it into a stein, it pored Incredibly smooth, very well balanced. A little malty and a little sweet with a really great head and a small lacing around the glass this beer has a dark coppery look and is a nice full bodied beer. It follows the nose exactly Oak and rye are the first things that hit you. I'd say woody overall. At 8.00 ABV this beer is perfect for the holiday season. My overall impression of this fine Ale is I loved it the aromas took me right back to a familiar place and it tas ted awesome. Even thought this beer is meant for the colder seasons and we arewell into the summer months the fact remains it is a good beer and pared with tuns of food, perhaps a pig roast maybe? Would do it justice. |
