Dr. Patch Adams to Speak at URI Honors Colloquium Tuesday

The real Patch Adams is coming to the University of Rhode Island this week to speak at the URI Honors Colloquium, a fall lecture series about “The Power of Humor.’’

Dr. Patch Adams is a doctor, activist and clown who speaks worldwide about how laughter is an antidote to illness. His message is that people need to take more interest in their health, and one simple and free way to do that is through laughter. Adams’ life was chronicled in the movie, “Patch Adams,’’ starring the late Robin Williams.

Adams’ talk is expected to last until 8:45 p.m. Afterward, he will answer questions from the audience for 15 minutes. He will not be available for interviews with the press, but reporters may listen to his talk and ask questions during the 15-minute question-and-answer session.
