My first mistake was having it way too cold. Now I know you're saying, "Too cold? Come on Ferro!", but I feel to truly get the full on loving from a dark beer, it's got to sit out for a little and warm up. Now I'm not talking room temperature here. Just not the super cold my beer fridge is at. Yes, I have a separate fridge just for my beer. My initial impression upon the pour is a dark espresso color. Good head with nice lacing. Great nutty nose. First taste combines that nutty aroma with smokey hints of malt, coffee and molasses. An unsweetened chocolate aftertaste leaves me wanting more. Easy drinking for a dark beer as its not as heavy as most. Also the U.S. Magnum and English East Kent Goldings hops used makes this a very balanced brew. ABV is at 5.2%. Overall I'm very satisfied with this beer. At about $6 for a bomber you really can't go wrong. Check out Buzzards Bay Brewing at 98 Horseneck Rd, Westport, MA 02790. Their Tap Room hours are Thursday & Friday from 1pm to 6pm and Saturday from 11am to 6pm. You can also check them out at the second annual Rhode Island Brew Fest event Saturday February 1st hosted downstairs from the 990WBOB studios in the Pawtucket Armory. There will be 40+ breweries and 125 beers to sample from. Also, don't forget Wednesday January 29th, I'll be on location at Park Wine and Spirits in Cranston, RI for a little pre-Brew Fest/Pre-SuperBowl fun. Stop by, say hi and stock up for the big game with The Franchise! |
