Kelly Doran New to Little Rhody, Clean Plate (345 South Water Street, Providence) is quite the unique eatery. Owners Laruen Speisman and Chef Susan Alper have been in the industry together for 20 years, and their expertise shows. No decision is taken lightly when it comes to the guest. Hours are spent choosing the right coffee and -- thanks to Alper and her kitchen crew -- preparing most items from scratch. With a menu featuring items from the Middle East, American culture, and slight Jewish influences, there is something for everyone who comes to dine. The hours over at Clean plate are just as unique as the menu, catering to all sorts of people from businessmen to students. Breakfast service starts at 8:00 am daily, with a Breakfast and Brunch menu. The highlights include an unbeatable egg sandwich on a bulkie roll for $2.75, and the Breakfast taco, made with frybread, eggs, bacon, cheese and salsa for $8.00. Lunch items include sandwiches like the Korean fried chicken sandwich. It’s a melt in your mouth chicken sandwich with the most delicious batter, and the sweet and spicy honey mustard sauce is to die for. Classics like the Crusty BLT and the Aunt Elsie tuna sandwich with chips again creates the sense that you are getting the best food at the best price around. Then, Thursday through Saturday, dinner service is available as well. Items like the free form lasagna, made with butternut squash, chicken, escarole and ricotta, will have even the toughest critiques saying “oh my god…this is the best dish ever!” And of course, to round out the week with a bang, Sunday Brunch at Clean Plate is the place to be. It’s super hard to find a great, reasonably priced Sunday Brunch spot. You could head to Broadway and spend well over $200 dollars on Brunch. Or you could head to Clean Plate and grab yourself the Best, and as far as I’m concerned, only place in providence to Grab Chicken and waffles, with Honey butter, and a Mimosa. And how could you forget dessert? Jewish desserts like rugulah offer tastes of another place. Made fresh, the Paunut butter pie rounds out any meal delightfully. Clean Plate offers much to their guests. The service is unbeatable. Nobody in that building doesn’t go above and beyond. The beautiful 14 seat bar is the epicenter of the restaurant. Servers are seen mixing drinks like the Cranston Coffee Milk Martini, made with your favorite autocrat coffee Milk syrup! The upper level is also cute and open. With two long communal tables that can fit up to a party of 20 at, it’s definitely the spot for family brunch, dinner with the girls, or even Holiday Parties and Baby showers. Lauren and Susan have created a space that is warm, comfortable, and super affordable. You can find the menu, hours phone number and even their catering menu, over at Cleanplateri.com. Don’t forget to check out their Facebook as well for special menu items, updates and photos! And Clean Your Plate, for God’s Sake! |
