LISTEN: Overwith The Franchise

In a local music community obsessed with an Americana roots derivative, it takes a concerted effort to establish yourself as an alternative to that genre. The playing has to be top notch and the material must bob and weave to protect itself from the sucker punch of an underserved labeling (e.g. just another alternative, post modern hard rock band).

Providence based Overwith succeed in capturing the enthusiasm of new music with well crafted material that compels the listener to show respect and have “open ears”. After some struggle with getting the right combo of musicians, founding members (bassist Kyle Plante and drummer Bryan Bansbach) found vocalist Paco Duarte and recently recruited guitarist Steve Marold to complete the Overwith sound.

Longtime WBOB BobCast hosts Joe Ferro & myself ,recently had the pleasure to speak with Marold on a special edition of The Franchise. Marold spoke about the band’s new EP “Follow the Sun” and some frank discussion about the trials and tribulations of upcoming artists. We also played a song from the recording (Open the Sky) to let you hear for yourself the diversity in this quartet’s cutting sonics.
