KONA Pipeline Porter Rides Into The Midwest Rich, roasty porter arrives just in time for the first chilly nights of Fall Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawaii, September 9, 2013 — Kona Brewing Company’s Pipeline Porter is making its way to the Midwestern states of Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Minnesota for the first time this September. Part of Kona Brewing’s Aloha Series, this American Porter is brewed with freshly roasted Kona coffee from the Cornwell Estate Coffee plantation neighboring Kona Brewing on the Big Island. Inspired by Banzai Pipeline’s pounding winter waves on the North Shore of Oahu, Pipeline Porter will be available on grocer’s shelves and on draught across the U.S. mainland and Hawaii from mid-September through December 2013. A highly anticipated beer in the Midwest, Pipeline Porter has received many recent accolades including top three finishes at the Great American Beer Festival, the Great International Beer and Cider Competition, and the Australian International Beer Awards. “This is our longest-running Aloha Series seasonal, and we are thrilled to bring it to the Midwest for the first time this year,” said Kona Brewing Company president Mattson Davis. “Pipeline Porter uses Kona coffee beans, which are among the best in the world and help round out the rich porter’s flavor. This brew is great in any weather, but Kona beer lovers on the mainland know that the best time to drink a Pipeline Porter is when craving a little warmth to cut through the chill of a brisk night.” Served year-round in Hawaii, Pipeline Porter has 5.3% ABV and an IBU of 23. Pipeline Porter is currently sold in stores and on draught in 36 states, and beer lovers can find exactly where with Kona Brewing’s online beerfinder. Miller Going Old School This fall, Miller Lite is returning to that similar original look on all packaging and across all marketing materials as part of its effort to remind beer drinkers that it is the only brand brewed to be a great tasting beer that just so happens to also be less filling. “The decision to bring back our original look was an important one for this brand,” said Miller Lite senior marketing director Ryan Reis. “It’s authentic, proud and highlights what has always been true about Miller Lite since it was first brewed. It’s a high-quality beer worthy of those moments with friends.” Early advertising from the brand told people Miller Lite was “everything you wanted in a beer, and less,” and that promise remains alive and well today. Miller Lite has won seven medals at the annual Great American Beer Festival and biennial World Beer Cup competitions, including five gold medals.* The words ‘A Fine Pilsner Beer’ are prominently displayed, as that is the simple end goal of each batch of Miller Lite, which uses a unique brewing process to attain its crisp pilsner flavor and aroma. Designed to give Miller Lite more real beer taste, hops are added at three distinct times throughout brewing. To celebrate what sets Miller Lite apart from other light beers, the brand re-introduced the Original Lite Can in January for what was supposed to be a two-month promotional window. Consumer response to the brand’s authenticity and great story was so positive that the brand kept the Original Lite Can in market and changed the bottle in August.
