As the season of pumpkin everything draws near, Newport Storm Brewery has announced the return of their tantalizing seasonal brew R.hode I.sland P.umpkin (R.I.P.umpkin). This concoction was wildly successful in draught from last year, but many fans felt the availability of this beer was more trick than treat. As word of the beer that could rival your grandmother‟s homemade pumpkin pie spread, many yearned to have this beer bottled up to share with friends and family at the homestead. But alas, the R.I.P.umpkin was only available at taverns in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. This year, the brewers called hogwash on the notion that admirers of the pumpkin brew couldn‟t savor its spiced goodness after a day of raking leaves in the yard or sitting by the fire on a crisp fall night. The brew schedule for 2014 was adjusted, and brewers managed to make enough draught and bottle beer to hit shelves the first week of September. “Boasting 3 pounds of pumpkin per keg, coupled with lactose milk sugar, a touch of chocolate malt for a ruby/orange color, caramel and cara malts for sweetness and copious quantities of pale malt, the only ingredient left for this liquid pumpkin pie libation was spices. Staying true to RI, we sourced those spices locally from Spice Mill, located in Wakefield, RI,” explains Brewmaster Derek Luke. The mixture of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice and cloves will „warm you up with a cold one,‟ all fall and winter long! R.I. P.umpkin will be available throughout Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine September 1-December 31! |
