The Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau (PWCVB) is helping Pokemon Go players navigate the city with a blog series on its GoProvidence.com website that highlights Pokestops in popular Providence neighborhoods. Millions have downloaded the Pokemon Go app since the launch July 6. The game utilizes augmented reality, driving gamers outside to hunt for Pokemon, collect items at Pokestops, and battle fellow gamers at gym locations. The PWCVB team has navigated downtown Providence and surrounding neighborhoods to provide an inside look at rare Pokemon sightings and gyms, as well as the location of pokestops. Downtown Providence and surrounding areas are home to more than 200 Pokestops, 10 gyms and many types of Pokemon. The blog series allows gamers to see what Providence has to offer prior to coming into the city, an option not available within the game, as it set to current geographical location. The series of blogs will highlight the location of each Pokestop, gym and samples of Pokemon sightings. The PWCVB has also launched #PokeGoProv and encourages players to use the hashtag to join the social conversation sharing sightings, events and Pokemon experiences.
The first blog of the series launches today on GoProvidence.com/PokemonGo featuring the Riverwalk in downtown Providence. The blog series will continue over the course of the next week, covering the following geographic areas:
