Rob Duguay For any music lover out there, they might have their pulse on the New York City music scene and not even realize it. So much history and a countless amount of epic bands have risen from the streets of the 5 boroughs to change the music of their generation while having it become timeless for years to come. Names like The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Talking Heads, The Strokes and TV On The Radio come to mind, but in this cornucopia of talent there might be another band to grab the torch and rock your socks off. Skaters and their debut album Manhattan have a good chance of being that band to break the mold with their energetic & jolting brand of music that they like to refer to as “Plasma Punk”. Along with staying true to their punk roots, what impresses me the most about Skaters is that they’re not afraid to add different dimensions to create something truly original. Once you press play on this gem, you’ll know exactly what I mean. I love how groovy Manhattan is, a few bona fide rockers mixed with a few tracks that’ll have you sit back and relax really makes the album blissfully diverse. The album is Skaters’ debut off of Warner Bros. Records, and for a major label release there is nothing that seems to be compromised. It’s genuine, unapologetic rock & roll that presents a different take on the old in order to make it new. I already can’t wait for the next album from this quartet who hail from The City That Never Sleeps. Riff romping and foot stomping, if you are suffering from a lack of enjoyment for your ears I suggest turning this album up and become a human force of nature. Ooh la la, Valentine’s Day is this week. If you’re single you can call it “Blue Balls Day” and if you’re lucky enough to have a significant other you can call it “I’m gonna buy you stuff you really don’t need but will put a smile on your face day”. Either way, you’re bound to fall in love with the top tracks off of my Album Of The Week. You never know, it might even persuade you to buy the album for that special someone. On the other hand, you might buy her that big box of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gummies instead. Either way, here goes something:
