When it comes to loud and abrasive music, it's hard to name a more intense band than Jersey Mathcore giants; The Dillinger Escape Plan. Their riffs, breaks, transitions and downbeats are as sporadic as they come, but somehow and someway they create completely crazy rhythms with melodic tendencies. The Dillinger Escape Plan has their fifth album out this week titled One Of Us Is The Killer and it absolutely slays. Parts of the album shows a band going back to their roots while other parts show their sound progressing.

Ear-splitting, raucous and purely chaotic sounds roar through the speakers right when you press play, this new record is definitely not for the hard of hearing. Greg Puciato's blood-curdling vocals haven't let up a bit and the rest of the band can at times get pretty creepy and at other times can make you feel like you walked through the 8th circle of Hell. One Of Us Is The Killer is all over the place with song structure but in a very good way. Each track is unpredictable, you never know what's happening next but it's guaranteed to make you go insane.

With all the indie and folk records I've reviewed so far this year I figured it would be about time that I changed things up a bit. No matter what changes, one thing always remains constant. Yep, it's that time again where I pick my favorite songs off of my Album Of The Week. It's a labor of love, an arduous task but only to let you know why this is worthy of being reviewed. Anyways, here goes something:

"Prancer" starts off with screeching guitar riffs gets chock full of pure mayhem, my favorite track off of the record so far. "The Threat Posed By Nuclear Weapons" is all quiet and somber at the beginning and then shows what The Dillinger Escape Plan does best, exuding sheer energy that will make you become a one man mosh pit. The title track "One Of Us Is The Killer" reminds me of the Irony Is A Dead Scene EP they put out with acclaimed singer Mike Patton back in 2002, Puciato puts out a similar vocal range that's amazing. Just because I named three tracks doesn't mean that you ignore it, every track off of One Of Us Is The Killer just rules.

The Dillinger Escape Plan will be at The Palladium in Worcester, MA on August 3rd. Until then, do yourself a favor a grab a copy of One Of Us Is The Killer. It'll destroy any sense of silence you have left.
