Stacked bills, the return of old friends and The Creative Capital being abundant with crazy parties and fun experiences. This time around it's no different with some of Providence's finest rocking the best bars and venues in the city to ring in 2014 with a bang. To give you an idea of what to check out, here are my Top 5 New Year's Eve shows that you can't miss: 5.) Olneyville Sound System & Gavage @ Dusk 301 Harris Avenue Providence, RI: A free show that will have complimentary pizza & champagne for the masses in attendance, Providence jazz-punks Gavage and legendary drum & bass fiends Olneyville Sound System will be rocking Dusk for what should be one hell of a time. There will be also be a special guest DJ on the 1's & 2's, so after both bands blast your eardrums into oblivion sit back and relax with your favorite libation to start of the new year just right. Doors are at 8pm, show starts at 9pm and like I said before it's FREE. 4.) King Sickabilly & His Full Moon Boys, The Denver Boot & Castle @ The Parlour 1119 North Main Street Providence, RI: Old-school style rockabilly, folk and even a tad bit of polka will be on tap at The Parlour with King Sickabilly & His Full Moon Boys, The Denver Boot & Castle on stage. "The Colonel" Johnny Maguire will also be spinning vintage rock & roll vinyl in between sets as well to conclude 2013. Show starts at 9pm and it's $10 at the door.
2.) Boo City, Cannibal Ramblers,The Farmers Union Players & Vudu Sister @ Nick-A-Nees 75 South Street Providence, RI: A quadrafecta of spectacular music will be taking over one of the best bars in Providence at Nick-A-Nees to celebrate the coming of the new year. Boogie with the black country rocksteady r & b blues of Boo City, Mark Milloff's legendary poontar guitar with fuzz blues band Cannibal Ramblers the rootsy americana folk from The Farmers Union Players and Vudu Sister lead by the one and only Keith McCurdy kicking things off with his own brand of death-folk. It's another free show going on in Providence with the show starting at 9pm and lasting all night. 1.) Joe Fletcher & The Wrong Reasons,J.P. Harris & The Tough Choices and Smith & Weeden @ The Met 1005 Main Street Pawtucket, RI: Right over the border from Providence in luxurious Pawtucket will be the grand return of Joe Fletcher & The Wrong Reasons to The Ocean State. With fellow honky tonks in J.P. Harris & The Tough Choices along with Providence rock & rollers Smith & Weeden sharing the stage, this will be the quintessential show that nobody should miss. Show starts at 9pm and it's $20 at the door. 5 shows going on in the Providence area that you should hit up. If you're the ambitious type maybe you should go to all of them!
