Down on South Water Street, right before you hit Wickenden sits Clean Plate. It’s neatly tucked in off the street, with a bright, welcoming yellow awning. They have amazing porchetta sandwiches and Chicken and Waffles that rival no other for brunch. It’s quickly become my alternative to expensive and clustered brunch spots on Broadway. As I’m sitting there enjoying my delicious cappuccino, our wonderful waitress mentions an upcoming Drag Trivia Night.
Obviously, I had to check it out.
A first for WRIK, the company who brings the trivia hosts and questions -- a First for the one and only Anita Cocktail, an 18-year vet of the Drag Queen Arts -- and a first for Clean Plate! The atmosphere was jovial, fun, with some feist thrown in for good measure. Anita Cocktail, a beautiful Queen if I ever saw one, was funny, entertaining, everything a Drag Queen should be. Legs that made me curse at God, and a cute little bottom to boot. 2 hours is a lot of time to fill up,but Anita was up for the challenge. Jokes and witty banter filled the evening. The categories for trivia are categories that all would enjoy. Sports, Music, General Trivia, so it’s not gay based or Drag exclusive, it’s designed to be fun for everyone. She floats around the restaurant shamelessly promoting her starring show beforehand, and kept everyone laughing and clapping, singing and dancing along all night, not one dull moment was to be had. I’m in love with the fact that this will be a weekly event for Clean Plate, and I know, with no doubt at all, this will be a huge success for both Anita, Clean Plate, and the guests. Clean Plate got in on the action by serving a delicious, fruity drink simply called the “Drag Queen”. Low priced bar snacks like homemade pretzels with house made cheese/beer dip were available, as well as homemade onion and bacon jam dip and homemade chips. Literally the best thing in the world to soak up all that vodka in the “Drag Queen”! They made a smart move here, to be the ones who host this New, Exciting Drag Trivia Night, especially because they JUST extended their night time hours, too! Needless to say, Wednesday nights at Clean Plate is the place to be. Trivia runs from 7-9, full bar and menu available. 345 South Water Street, Providence RI. Be there or be Square, Bitches. XOXO |
