Mya Destinee Nerds, fanboys, and Star Wars enthusiasts of New England -- it is time to get excited! The one, the only Carrie Fisher will grace Providence with her presence at this year's RI Comic Con. Yes, the actress best known from her portrayal of Princess Leia Organa in the original Star Wars trilogy, will join an impressive cast of celebrities, athletes, and artists at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence on the weekend of November 6-8. Can we first talk about Kristy Swanson for a second, though? I have to go to this year's Comic Con to A) meet Carrie Fisher, and perhaps purchase a picture with her for a modest $45, and B) see if Kristy Swanson is still hot, and if she is wearing her Buffy the Vampire Slayer cheerleader uniform... all bets are off -- except this one: I will hit on her!
The Pink Power Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson, will also be there, along with one of my personal heroes -- Tom Kenny, the Voice of Spongebob! But none hold a candle to the star power of Carrie Fisher . Fisher has been a household name since birth, being Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher's daughter. She made an appearance in just one film before she landed the role that would shape the her life and enthrall millions of people for generations. She represented one of the first sex symbols in the sci-fi genre, way out-of-the-league for any of the geeks fawning over her. But still, they continue to come out in droves each time a new Star Wars film is announced -- and it’s in no small credit to her. When she appeared in the gold bikini in Return of the Jedi -- she became centerpiece to some of the most iconic movie stills of all time. And those buns! We can’t forget those friggin' buns! Fisher went on to do writing work for movies such as Coyote Ugly, an obvious classic, and Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones. She had small parts in the The Blues Brothers and When Harry Met Sally. Fisher also wrote seven novels about her life in the spotlight and her addictions, in which she has been open about her struggles with bipolar disorder and addiction. One can admire the courage it takes to survive those struggles, never mind talk openly about them. She has gone on to still be a household name, nearly 40 years after the first episode of the Star Wars saga hit the screen. And nearly 40 years later, she will be reprising her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which has been long awaited. RI Comic Con has an incredible line up this year, and Carrie Fisher is the reigning queen of the whole shebang. Every person even near the RI Convention Center that weekend will be excited to know that she is in that building... and that's saying something! Even The Fonz will be there, in the flesh! And if he is wearing that iconic leather jacket, I’m hitting on him, too! See you at Comic Con! XOXO |
