After last week's memorable fiery ending, the Walking Dead group returned to the small screen with a "build up" episode. An edition of America's favorite series that undoubtedly has set the tone for the series' future.

However that does not mean it was entertaining...

Although not every moment of every episode should or has to be filled with heart pounding flesh eating zombie attacks. Most of us can agree that Carl (played by Chandler Riggs) and Hershell (Scott Wilson) hopping around the woods was not very exciting. Neither was Tyrese's (Chad Coleman) moping sequence. It's not often I point out unrealistic moments in a fictional show. Yet come on! The proverbial shit hit the fan some two years prior to this time. He's just now feels defeated?  He only at this point lost some one he cares for? Talk about a stretch.

Speaking of stretches, later on Rick confronts Carol (Melissa McBride) about the burnt duo. She immediately almost willing takes responsibility for it. Leaving Rick speechless and the faithful viewers in disbelief. We the audience are left to believe that sweet old cry herself to sleep Carol set two undead fellow survivors a blaze? Ok let's say you buy the fact that this post apocalyptic world has hardened her.  The loss of her daughter and friends has callused her soul. She on numerous occasions either has had to kill or be killed. Yet she has now moved from killing walkers or those soon to be walkers to cold blooded homicide? Not to mention she physically dragged those bodies on her own? There may just be an accomplish afoot. The writers are laying out a "greater good" survival story line. Perhaps introducing a step by step plan to a lethal mental god like way of thought. That will eventually push Carol past a rationale mindset and into one of complete panic.

Rick struggled this week to find his role. Despite his confrontation with Tyrese (which I'll get to)  he really failed to engage on anything. Not a sitting member of the council and not willing to head out on the road.  It seems especially in Carol's case that he is perceived now as not much more than a farmer. He awkwardly interacts with the group, pointing out what should happen yet stopping short when it come to the actual execution of anything other than crops.
It's not all bad this week. Before Tyrese began his pity party he suffered a moment of insanity of his own. At the beginning of this episode he engaged with both Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) in a post mortem fit of angst. Eventually ending with the good sheriff Rick laying the hurt on the seemingly larger Tyrese. Who was pushed to this state upon finding the burned corpses of his love interest and another survivor. Vowing vengeance at any cost he spent the rest of the episode in a mental disparity.

The council continued to deal with not only the morality of the virus situation but how to contain it and treat it. Now spread to just about everyone in the D wing of the prison. The sick began to out number those who were not. Outspoken and in control Hershell called for the quarantining of the children. Separating the sick and planned basic treatment.  After convincing his daughter and Rick the necessity of his healing hand, Hershell entered the designated  sick wing. Treating the infected with an old wives tail tea. Meant at the very least to lower the fever of those suffering from the virus including Glenn (Steven Yeun). Besides berries and bedside manner Hershell spoke of a veterinary hospital some fifty miles away.  Daryl volunteered to head the road expedition for medical supplies believed to still be inside the hospital.

Things could not have gone worse for the road squad. Comprised of Michonne (Danai Guirrira), Tyrese,  Bob (Lawrence Gilliard Jr) and Daryl the foursome are up the old creek. While en route the team heard a voice over the radio. (See Spoiler Alert for more)  In disbelief they scattered through the FM dial to make out the message.  It was while this was transpiring Daryl and the gang literally drove into a herd of thousands of zombies. Narrowly escaping the car as it was engulfed by the dead. The team made it to the surrounding woods followed by the enormous cackle of flesh eater.

Even More Walking Dead

The Talking Dead this past Sunday may have had more  scares than the actual show. Singer Marilyn Manson stopped by to chat about, well who the hell knows what he was talking about. Not even he was sure just what he was babbling on and on and on about. I actually felt for the show's host Chris Hardwick. Trapped on a live broadcast with an erratic hot mess and a son of Ozzy.  Hardwick  himself was in a horrific apocalyptic nightmare.

Next time on The Walking Dead

Spoiler Alert
As if Daryl and his road party did not have enough on thier plate. With some 7,500 plus zombies following them and a plague at home that put them in this pickle to begin with.  Now they are about to be introduced to a whole new group of survivors. They appear normal at first. However they all will be reminded of the fable of Hanzel & Gretel. Making an already sick world that much more of nightmare
